A great train station. Plenty of space I side to wait for trains. Sinage is good and effective. There are several different types of food as well as bathrooms. Its fairly well laid out, and easy to access. I recommend you arrive ahead of time so that you can find your train easily. Also some trains arrive earlier and start boarding early. Make sure to keep on top of when your train leaves.
Penn Station on 33rd and Pennsylvania has received a much needed renovation and facelift. Its modern and still and clean. Its very cold outside so there are still lots of homeless wandering about the station. There's lots of shops and places to eat. There's a Starbucks there too, I recommend you go 20 minutes early because of long lines. The restrooms can be atrocious. This place is huge and you can very easily get lost. You can catch a taxi right out front or catch the subway on 34th.
This is a state of the art station with plenty of shops, food options and even a wonderful waiting room with electricity outlets that only ticket holders can get into and therefore there is plenty of available sitting space with comfortable leather seats! Prior to this visit my favorite station was London kings cross, but no more it isn’t
PENN STATION: this place is massive. The location is home to one of the busiest parts of the city. Directly Next to Madison Square Garden and with impeccable views of the Empire State Building, Penn station is conveniently located. Pros: heart of the city Cons: heart of the city. Way too crowded at times. The worst is right after a game or a concert gets out! Good luck out there folks!
The new hall looks nice and open. Not much seating. Most train track numbers don’t post until 15 minutes before they leave so you have to watch and pay attention.
Beyond my expectations , it is so beautiful architecture work, very clean well organized nice shop customer service at Amtrack services counter.
The billion dollar facelift is AMAZING!! Every NYer travelling through was taking pictures and videotaping the changes Amtrak, Airtrain, Reg NYC Dubway connects, waiting areas, shops!, etc. Makes you wanna travel again! Looks better than Philly's station and cleaner than DC's!!! Love the spaciousness and bright natural light. I hope they incorporated solar panels.
Absolutely miserable experience during construction. Could barely figure out how to leave. Bad signage. Busy. Run down. Good grief.
I took Amtrak, Carolinian train and booked a Roomette. The station was packed but I boarded my train 20 mins after arrival so I didn't notice much except you can't hear the announcements clearly and the workers had to come and yell the departure instructions for the trains. My Amtrak Roomette was great, I was able to stretch out, get comfortable, toilet in the room and it didn't smell like a Porta Potty. Complimentary meal, beverages, amazing buttercake. I will definitely book this whenever possible. And I enjoyed this more than Acela First Class.
I've always had an easy time taking the trains here. It is kind of a funny mad rush to the track once they call which track the train is at - basically everyone cutting in line and they have a really hard time lining people up. Otherwise, the bathrooms are fine, and the main hall is beautiful.
