Reviews
I rarely write reviews for anything, but I have to say my experience at APVoices was one of the best experiences I've had. When I signed-up for the one-on-one class, I wasn't sure what to expect. Wow, was I surprised. Ellie and Frank were incredible in giving an overview of the voice-over business and it was clear that I would learn a great deal from both of them. The follow-on package to learn how to be a voice-over artist and record a demo was not only a great learning experience, but it was a ton of fun. Being a professionally trained voice-over artist is not something I could have imagined until I finished the class. Now I have the confidence, tools, and experience to pursue voice-over work and I'm super-excited! Thanks APVoices.
APVoices, Ellie Devers and Frank Piazza, are consummate professionals with a fun and affirming hand in teaching voice-overs. My experience with them has been wonderful...everything I could have hoped for. Ellie is exceptional in eliciting from her students the best that they can be and Frank is a magician in the sound room. Look no further, you've found your voice-over career launch pad.
I feel so incredibly lucky to have found AP Voices. I did extensive research to find the best spot to do some Voice Over demo prep sessions and recording. I spoke with and did over-the-phone voice evaluations for several studios, and APVoices is the best deal by far. Financially, it is a much more doable price than some studios with flashier advertising. I went with the A package which includes training sessions, 2 demos, and a year's worth of free audition space. Wow. Nothing even compares. Now to get to the quality: I strongly feel that Ellie Devers has made me not just a better VO actress which she has but also a better actress in general. She has this unbelievable ability to detect the tiniest bit of over- acting or under- delivering. In addition to the acting assistance I've also come away with monologue material that I've never explored before and I now use in my theatre audition life. I strongly feel that being in the same studio one on one with Ellie got better results than training over skype or over the phone which a lot of other places do. Ellie is present through training and is also there during the demo recording which I think is essential, and is something other studios can't offer. Frank not only made my demo sound great but has also given me valuable advice in terms of my home- recording sessions. Which gets to the most important point: I'm working as a VO actress now! I've got 5 audiobooks and 2 commercial VOs under my belt. So, I think that speaks for the quality of AP Voices quite clearly.
Out of Business? As of March 2018 I've attempted to make contact with the AP Voices numerous times to no avail. Emails, phone messages, and actual contacts with AP office staff support over the course of three months have resulted in absolutely no response from the owners/operators. AP Voices has an attractive website, but I've moved on. There are many voice over programs in NYC that actually respond to inquiries.
Great instruction.
