Washington Square Institute (WSI), founded in 1960, is a premiere nonprofit institute and treatment center devoted to education, research, and advancement of psychoanalytic thought and practice.

Story

WSI has been a landmark for psychotherapy and psychoanalytic training and supervision in Greenwich Village, New York City. For the past 52 years, WSI has been dedicated to providing sliding scale fee psychotherapy and ongoing educational programs to the community.

With an Absolute charter granted by the New York State Regents, WSI Treatment Center and Training Institute continues its proud tradition with a cutting edge approach in mental health to a broad, diverse and vibrant population of clients and candidates.

Washington Square Institute also publishes a journal Issues in Psychoanalytic Psychology which is abstracted in the Psychoanalytic Abstracts and the Psychological Abstracts. A professional library is maintained on the premises.

Educational Events: Washington Square Institute offers a rich series of lectures, workshops, seminars and conferences throughout the year. WSI draws on key theorists, scholars and clinicians in the mental health fields as well as from WSI’s own leadership and faculty to offer state of the art scientific educational events. Mission

Washington Square Institute and Training Center are integrated under an absolute charter granted by the New York State Board of Regents. Our mission is to provide excellent psychoanalytic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy training and continuing education, sponsored by the American Psychological Association (APA), to mental health practitioners. WSI is a non-profit Institute⁄Treatment Center committed to providing affordable personalized mental health services by highly skilled clinicians to a broad and diverse population.
