This place is pretty ratchet, a lot of commotion and interesting people. It seems like a sort of low-budget venue, but offered a pretty good atmosphere and good drinks and snacks

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT AZ EVENT CENTER IS REALLY LIKE, I attended three Golden Gloves (Fri-Sun) and an MMA event there this year. I have traveled the state and been in a lot of venues. and unless you have money to burn or some other goal (gambling, shopping), this is an intimate setting for a mid-sized event. Do not believe any other review that says drinks are expensive. The only thing cheaper would be to sneak something in, but the reviewer that said the security was tight was right. You do not spend 9-15 dollars for a drink like you do at Comerica or the other professional sports venues. This has the feel of a mom and pop operation, so you are going to pay less for your tickets and less to enjoy the limited, but inexpensive amenities. During one event they were selling a solid plate of food for under $7. As for entry, $20 bucks or so gets you closer to the action than a $100 ticket at the large venues. So it all depends on what you are after. The center can house multiple events at a time. One night while we were watching Golden Gloves a wrestling match was going on in another area. There are no frills. The building is plain inside and out. The seats are of the folding variety. You can see how the ceiling is constructed. The building was always clean. Every time I was there the audience was loud but well behaved, with kids in all of the events. The sound system was a little off on one of the four days, but that could be an inexperienced person eating the microphone. If your not a Mesa fan, the security was great, and my wife never worried about it. The parking is ample. If you can get over the fact that you are walking into an old Home Depot - Sports Authority building, then you can have a really good time and leave with some money still in your pocket. If you are there to impress your first date . . . you did not choose wisely.

Kind of a dive multipurpose place. If you have kids with you for the event pay the extra for front row. The seats are not on any pitch so kids cannot see. In my case I was row 2 and had a ginormous person in front of me and could not see. But the PHX Wrestling we saw was fun and worth it.

This is an absolutely terrible venue. I have been to a lot of performances (pianists, plays, comedy shows, concerts, etc) and this is by far the worst place to have your show.
The first thing that was a red flag for me was the fact that I couldn't bring in my purse. My purse is average size, very open, they could CLEARLY see nothing was in there. I also carry around pepper spray for safety. It's not in a good part of town. The security guards forced me to put both my purse AND my pepper spray back in my car and then get back in line (at the very end while my friends were allowed in). The guards were even telling the people in line that audience members at one of the other shows were bringing in drugs and weapons. DOESN'T THAT MEAN I NEED MY PEPPER SPRAY?!?!?!?!? Also another woman had a purse that was about the same size as mine and she was allowed to bring it into the venue.
I get into the venue, deal with the body pat down (mandatory for everyone in case you're curious) and then went into the part of the show for the event that I was attending. There was a waiter going around asking everyone for their drink orders and I ask for a cup of water. I was told that they only sell bottles of water. Last time I checked, every restaurant/theatre/business that has access to water gives it out for free to the public. While there is no law that states you give a free cup of water, acting like you don't have it and forcing people to pay CASH only (when you should be accepting all forms of payment) for everything is unacceptable. It's TERRIBLE customer service.
My friend who was there was ordering drinks and told me that the BARTENDER told her that they were missing HALF of the supplies and alcohol that they needed.
I would also like to point out that they gave her a cup of water at no charge because she was drinking alcohol. But a regular citizen who just waited 30 MINS outside in the heat can't have a cup of water?!
The soap dispensers in the bathroom were broken or didn't have soap in them.
I even briefly talked to one of the cast members of the show I was attending and they told me that the venue treated them HORRIBLY. They were super strict and just plain rude.
So there you have it. From the customer to the employees to the client (performers) this venue is CRAP. Do not go to an event here. You are going to have a terrible time I guarantee you.
