Let me start off by saying I do not what my review to be a reflection of my stylists work. This should merely a reflection of the training and assistance they are receiving on the floor. I scheduled a full foil and a haircut for 12:30pm I got there at 12:15 and we got started ahead of schedule. My stylist was very nice and seemed to be understanding of the result I was looking for. It was going well, she wasn’t the fastest foiler by any means but that is understandable as they are students and will get faster with experience. 1:30 rolled around and she was still fouling, 2:30 and 3:30 still foiling. My stylist stated that the school would like students to finish up with the clients around 4:00 as school is done at 4:30 and they need to be finished. Since she finished foiling around 3:30 she rushed me to the shampoo bowl which could use some updating and started washing my hair. Since I was getting highlights and wanted something similar to a platinum blonde she was also using a toner. She put the toner in and said she was going to let it sit for 7 minutes. I’ve gotten highlights my whole life and the toner has always been left in longer than 7 minutes. I was trusting if the process as I hadn’t seen anything yet so maybe my toner did only need 7 minutes to process. Well, she came back two minutes later and rinsed out my toner and didn’t even let it sit for the 7 minutes she said. Then we walked back to her chair and she stated it was 4:00 and she wouldn’t be able to do the haircut today and asked if I could come back. I am a new mom of a 10 week old and am going back to work in a couple days. I think it is very unprofessional and sad that they schedule things that these students don’t have enough time to complete. I don’t have the schedule or the flexibility to come back whenever I’d like because she was not able to finish my haircut. She also asked if I would be ok with a casual blow dry instead of a style. I said yes, as I felt bad that she was feeling rushed and I did not go there for a blow out I can do that at home. It was the color I went for. I told her that was fine. She blow dried my hair for maybe 2 minutes and never even brushed thru it. I don’t think she wanted to spend more time cleaning her brush when she finished with me. After that my hair was a tangled mess and was still dripping wet on the ends. She proceeded to get an instructor to sign off/ approve of her work. I thought surely the instructor would have her dry it to see the quality of the color/ color pattern but no, the instructor said Great job! Thanks for coming in today. While my hair was tangled and dripping wet. When my stylist told her that she was unable to get to my haircut I thought maybe someone else could do it or something, they wouldn’t have people leave without finishing the service they scheduled… right? But they did. I paid for my service and left. In disbelief of what just happened I thought, I’ll go home and see my color. I wasn’t able to tell when I left due to the wet hair and unbrushed hair. I was shocked when I got home. And unfortunately a little upset how things ended because if I would’ve seen the finished product at the institute I would’ve brought it their attention. To be continued -
Both my daughter’s hair turned out great! 11/14 years old. One got a cut and style and the other got highlights and a haircut. They both said their stylist were really nice and easy to talk too!
Been here a few times and was good enough for me to try coming in again. It’s always a little bit slower but I understand that it’s students and usually don’t mind the extra time. However - All I came in for this time was to get about an inch of hair trimmed and this took 2 1/2 hours. There was one point I couldn’t tell if the student was even cutting my hair or pretending to because of how apprehensive she was and no hair was falling from the shears… Just the sectioning of my hair into 4 parts somehow took almost 40 minutes. I was so confused and disappointed by the experience. Not only that but the sections of my hair are all different lengths even after 3 of the teachers looked at it and “came to help”. It’s like all the staff that “helped” gave me a different haircut. Done dirty. Sad to say this was the last time I’ll be visiting.
STAY AWAY. I’ll let the “expectations vs reality” photos do most of the talking here, but I’ll expand on my experience in more depth below. 1 one of the instructors berated me, on and on, for having used “box dye” 6/7 months ago I had used a similar combo of dye + developer that they use in-salon, but I digress. She kept talking about how it was “so cheap” and “full of chemicals” so she couldn’t control my outcome. Salons use chemicals too, and they get them at a discount that is, for “cheap”. Bleach is bleach. Stylists work with people who have home-dyed their hair all the time. Why would you berate your clients? It made me feel terrible, and left a poor impression. 2 I was sent home with dripping wet hair and a wet shirt from it because they were wrapping up for the day. Not even a courtesy 2-3 minutes of zapping with a blowdryer, or even a towel to try to soak it up. What bothered me about this was that it’s pretty basic knowledge that hair looks different when it’s dry. I had already expressed concern that it didn’t look great, but I wasn’t able to appraise fully until I got home and dried it myself. How would I ask for a second service or refund if I couldn’t even see how it looked? 3 When I expressed concern, a different professor evaluated and said I could pay to come back for a second round. I’m pretty sure if I took my expectation photo, and what I ended up with, to any decent hairstylist, they would refund me and give me the touch up for free, but in any case I don’t really want anyone from Aveda touching my hair again. 4 It seemed like no one, students or instructors, took pride in their work. I spent four hours there for two small strands of hair, and no one ever offered me water or asked how I was holding up. I was told to sit in uncomfortable positions like with my head on the hard sink for 15-20+ minutes without a thought as to maybe making it more comfortable. Getting your hair done should be fun and exciting, but no one even cared enough to want to see the end result of FOUR HOURS of work/waiting. Is it because they knew it wasn’t up to par, or because they genuinely just don’t care how they do? I texted photos to my friends, and their response was, verbatim, that Aveda “did me so dirty.” That’s not what anyone wants to hear after a whole half day hair appointment. Overall, the whole experience left an awful taste in my mouth to say nothing of how my hair turned out. I so rarely go out of my way to leave reviews, but honestly, I don’t want someone else to go through what I did because they thought they could get their desired outcome for slightly less money and give a training opportunity to a young stylist. Maybe they do better with simple haircuts here, but please, for your own sake, don’t do your dye jobs here. I had to fix it at home myself—I suppose with what Aveda would call the “cheap stuff”—but at least it looks passable now, even if not what I wanted. Honestly, do it yourself or go to an actual pro, because the teachers and people running the show aren’t it.
The Institute is a complete experience, the moment you enter the building is when it begins, from the aromatherapy in the air to the buzz of energy from the Students. The services are A+, top-notch under the careful guidance of the Aveda Educators. I always enjoy my visits for cuts and colors
I had such a great experience here. I just came in for a simple trim with layers for my long, straight hair. I got a full salon experience and I was treated like royalty. Lovely wash with product recommendations, but not shoved down my throat. Cut was great with a teacher checking at every step. Then I got a nice blowout on the house. I would definitely recommend over some of the other salons in the area which offer less for more $$$.
Abi did an excellent job for my partial foil. Appreciative of the senior discount. Always pleased with the service of well trained students.
Not a lot of ability from the students cutting hair with texture nor much oversight from teachers. My stylist cut the back at a length not accounting for shrinkage and didn’t really check with me. Ended up with a haircut significantly shorter than I wanted. Yeah there’s corrective services available but what are they gonna do, add hair to your head. I don’t know, I’d just recommend going to an actual salon they’re sometimes not much more expensive than the 25$ you are paying here.
I've been to the Aveda Institute for haircuts and eyebrow waxing multiple times over the years. Getting a haircut here can take a long time but I think that's totally understandable since it's a school. I had always had a good experience but today I got these cuts on my neck. The neck area was "cleaned up" by the instructor with the clipper. It hurt a little bit at the moment, so I guess I could've said something but I didn't think I was getting cut, so I didn't say anything. Once I got home and saw how bad it was, I decided to share this. I'm guessing there was something wrong with the clipper so i'd suggest Aveda inspect it's equipment Update: I went back to show them this and they granted me a refund. They explained to me that the clipper was damaged
It’s a great place to get your hair done! It’s a hit or miss depending on who’s assign to do your hair. But it’s for a great purpose higher education and not to mention the price. Hair will grow back. Today “Laurel” is exceptional. Very professional and timely manner. My hair color is spot on with Better smells and healthier look at the end
