I have been a customer for 1 year. They took great care of my rabbit. Dr. answered all my questions and my concern about my bunny. The price of the vaccines are reasonable. Totally, I am very happy with their service
I have a tiny, feisty 10yo bun with dental issues and Avian & Exotic has provided excellent care to him. Dr. Harrenstien has been amazing - she is extremely knowledgable and experienced, yet always takes the time to answer your questions and explain things in a way you can easily understand. She's never in a rush, unlike other vets not to mention human doctors! Everyone there has always been very kind and helpful, and I can always trust them to take the best of care of Mr. Bun and laugh about his crazy feisty attitude. : Thank you Avian & Exotic!!
I don’t know what’s taken me so long to review but I highly recommend this clinic for exotics pets, especially frogs. Dr. Harrenstien, Dr. Mattucks, and especially Dr. Gibbons as well as the rest of the staff have taken wonderful care of my whites tree frogs the last two years. They are very knowledgeable on the species and I have learned so much. They have gone above and beyond to treat my frogs- ridding them of parasites, lots of fecal testing, treating face sores, treating constipation and easing my mind when I worry over every little thing I am quite neurotic when it comes to my frogs. They are always incredibly kind and I always feel comfortable handing my frogs over to them for appointments. They even offer non medical boarding, which was such a relief to me while I was gone traveling for a month, to know my frogs were in good hands and being well cared for, with updates every few days. I’m so grateful to have such a good exotics vet nearby and highly recommend booking them for your pets next vet visit. I also want to shout out Juli, who is always a delight to talk to on the phone and is so kind and understanding. They do book up very quickly but offer a waitlist for urgent care appointments.
I had my First ever Appointment at this Location. I brought in my newest Rescue Fancy Mouse! I arrived around 1pm and the appointment lasted around 45minutes. A good time for a thoughro examine. They gave an extensive report back to me, that was very informative and helpful for me. I felt very comfortable and happy with the experience, On top of a conversation about concerns I had, her health, temperament and the overall Examine process - They attached a Paragraph to the recipient of a summary of findings! They are very helpful, Kind, and Welcoming. I couldn't appreciate and trust anyone more in my Pet's hands. Definitely going to bring my other babies to this Location!
The best vets and vet staff love your babies like their own and show compassion to the owners. That's what we found at AEVC. As stated in other reviews, Dr. Harrenstien was very patient and kind with all my questions. She is knowledgeable and good at translating to layman terms. Her CVT Rachel went above & beyond helping me navigate an unusual tactical situation and then conveyed so much compassion when the time came to let my pet go. As busy as they are, they did their best to make time for the needed treatment and gave him full attention when it was his turn. Unfortunately, this time our family got a sad ending but AEVC gave our boy a fighting chance. If I'd gotten him to them sooner, I feel confident they could've saved him. My gratitude to all the AEVC staff.
I seriously cannot say enough good things about AEVC. Everyone who works here is so incredibly kind and they really, really love animals. I’ve had to bring my rat in several times this past year due to mites and a few very persistent myco flare ups, and Dr. Mattucks has treated him with care and patience every time. I’ve never felt rushed during our appointments and have always received thorough answers to my many questions & she has always been understanding and respectful of my budget. He’s a pretty skittish boy who wasn’t handled much in the past so it means the world to me to have a safe place to get him the care he needs. I would trust this staff wholeheartedly with any animal, Merlin & I are so grateful for you all!!
The staff are knowledgeable for the most part obviously not about everything. I enjoy how thorough and detailed they are with their questions when it comes to general exams. The issue I have is that they charge a $95 mandatory consultation fee for every visit even if it's just a nail trim. So what should be $20 or $30 for a nail trim for our foster bird is over $100. That's ridiculous for a nail trim!!!! The nonprofit rescue I volunteer for is going to go broke because of this place. I don't understand why this is the preferred place for the Portland area. Of course, this is not mentioned on the website because that would involve being honest and possibly getting less of the green stuff. Now, I'm not saying that the Avian Medical Center in Lake Oswego is any better. Both of these places display very questionable behavior, but I just find this one to be the lesser of the two evils or weevils for some pun. That being said, I like this place for annual exams/checkups and large procedures but definitely favor the Avian Medical Center for the small stuff like beak and nail trims.
I can't recommend this clinic enough. I had rats that received excellent care from everyone here! We were even able to extend one's life significantly because the vet recognized signs of a pituitary gland tumor and got her on the right meds to shrink the tumor and help her pain. They even helped with a couple of emergencies and went above and beyond. We recently lost our last two ratties, but they got a much longer and better life thanks to the care of this clinic! Thank you so much for taking great care of Buzz, Neil, Nebula and Nova! We are very grateful for your service and help!
They gave me a call the day before to verify my appointment, gave me time estimates for my bearded dragon's visit and it wasnt too expensive! They also followed up with an email and any adjustments I could make to his enclosure and feeding habits. I'll most definately recommend my friends that have exotic pets/reptiles.
My rabbit bit himself and was bleeding quite a lot. I tried calling twice and got no response untill maybe 30 minutes later but I was busy keeping pressure on his wound and couldn't get to my phone within the 2 rings before they hung up. I called back a second timemaybe 5 minutes after their first call and I didn't hear from them for maybe 2 hours. I fixed the issue only because the lady at Petco helped me out. If God forbid something like this ever happens again, I'm going straight to Dove Lewis. I wonder how many peoples pets died because of this places lack of urgency. Seriously if you love your pet go elsewhere, they don't care.
