I hadn't been to Baker's Square in years. We went after a movie because my dad had a coupon. The restaurant was almost empty, there were only people at 1 table & 1 other couple walked in w/us...that was it!!! They offer breakfast all day, & even w/that, nothing on the menu looked or sounded appealing except 1 thing...the bananas fosters pancakes in a mug. The picture made them look delicious, but it was confusing as to how big the dish & the pancakes actually were...they were in an actual coffee mug in the picture, so we were like are they dollar size or what? It ended up being that they were regular sized pancakes served in an oversized mug, & let me tell y'all, these were the BEST FRICKIN pancakes that I've had in a LONG TIME!!! For the longest, my favorite pancakes have been the Cinnabon pancakes from Denny's. I mean, who doesn't want to eat something that tastes JUST LIKE a Cinnabon? The only thing w/the Cinnabon pancakes is that they are a bit heavy. The bananas fosters pancakes from Bakers Square, they have a banana flavored whipped cream between each pancake. But what TRULY makes this dish special is the caramel sauce. Typical bananas fosters has a regular caramel sauce...their caramel sauce was bright with a touch of orange flavorThen they're topped w/bruleed bananas & almonds...SO FRICKIN DELICIOUS!! Unfortunately, my parents didn't enjoy their food as much as I did My dad described his chicken sandwich as "completely flavorless," & he sent it back for "the works burger" which he genuinely enjoyedMy mom had the patti-melt. The burger itself was cut in half prior to being served. The burger was SO disproportionate & SO small that after she took 2 bites into the 1st half all that was left was bread...it was a little bit better on the other half, but she was still left w/bread Lastly, our waitress, Malorie, sucked!!! When we were seated & got our menus, she came right away & took our drink orders. She returned right away & asked if we were ready to place our order; we told her that we needed a minute or two. The waitress station is right in the middle of the restaurant, everyone can see what's going on. She let us sit there for 10-15 minutes before she returned. There was only 1 other waitress. Malorie constantly kept her back to tables the entire time we were there. I had to wave at the other waitress so she could tell Malorie to come our table.I did that 2x's & stopped the bus person 1x. She never checked on us...she never even brought the check!!! I ended up just going to the register to pay w/o the check & made the manager figure it out!! Here's a pic of my WONDERFUL pancakes!!
The food is tasty. I love the home cooked and the free pie Wednesday is a great deal. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are generous. I like that there is a variety of menu options. I need more places to offer infused water options or more drink options for those of us who don't drink soda.
A pleasant surprise......I had only ordered pie to go and never ate there. Ordered a patty melt with fries and everything was well prepared. Definitely not cutting edge cuisine but nicely done. Being in a group of 10 I thought both the waitress and hostess were efficient and professional. A good choice for lunch around the Southridge area.
Pretty good food and decent prices! Would like to see the place cleaner, though.
This is a nice place to grab a quick bite! The restaurant is a tad dated however it makes up for it with good food and service. Take out is available, the holiday pies and seasonal pies are always fresh, and their Pie Rush Wednesday special includes a free slice with any meal...not an order of fries...a meal from the menu which is a steal.
The food is above average but typical fare. However, no one anywhere, beats the pies. Te variety and the taste are exceptional. O.K. maybe homemade is better but these pies are exceptional. It can be a bit tricky to get into the parking lot if you are traveling south on 76th. You can enter through the rear part of the lot which is easier. The restaurant is handicap accessible. Wednesdays you receive a free piece of pie with every meal.
Our server was very nice, but I could have used a water refill. My BLT was great! I ordered fruit with it. The fruit looked a bit slimy and after eating a few pieces I noticed a fly. Our waitress was very apologetic and brought me fries instead.
Good is good wholesome American food, but all of their establishments feel dirty. They need to replace carpeting, tables, chairs, lighting, and ceiling tiles. Return air ducts are dirty and need to be cleaned. Silverware was water spotted and food particulate still on 3 out of 6 spoons. Pie is wonderful and most of the food tastes good and is consistently cooked.
Wife had the pot roast small portion and I had the chicken pot pie. The pot roast was excellent, but my pot pie was sub standard. The chicken was tough and the filling was mostly gravy with few vegetables. The flavor was fine, and the service was perfect, but I will not have the pot pie again. The food is usually excellent, but the pot pie is not what it once was.
In spite of the many 5 stars this restaurant received, my experience was worth one or less. I am vegetarian and I ordered veggie omelet with hash browns and pancakes. I ordered decaf coffee. The omelet and the hash browns were very bland with some smelly feta cheese on top. The pancakes were cold, and the coffee did not smell or taste like coffee. The waitress told me that the food the bland because the patron don't want too much salt or butter and the kitchen manager told me that he would pass on the information. To whom? I wondered. Isn't he the kitchen manager? Was he going to pass it on to himself??
