Bavarian Inn

Very enjoyable stay. Close to many local attractions. The Sunday brunch was incredible! We were able to enjoy so many different types of foods over a few hours we had never tried before. I hear a pub is being built onto it which is going to be great.

We recently stayed for one night for a get-a-way weekend. This has been a fairly regular event for us at this location over the past 20 years. We had not been back for a couple of years due to a less than pleasurable experience previously and thought it was time to give them another try. It was a mistake. The property has seen a gradual but generally continuous decline in maintenance. The site was under construction with no provisions in place to ensure the convenience of the patrons. The rooms are desperately in need of updating with evidence of old finish and furnishings. The wait staff was polite but the food quality was not up to previous standards. The arrogance of the ownership appears to permeate through the staff in general and an aloof attitude toward service quality prevails. We have traveled extensively nationally and internationally and recognize quality of service and accommodations; this property does not present well.

The jewel of Shepherdstown is no more. Tonight was probably my last experience at the restaurant. Recently, the owners of the Bavarian retired and left the operation to their children. The sons have managed to take the restaurant from a truly unforgettable Germanic culinary wonder to a 3rd rate cafeteria experience. I wish I could say that I am just being over reactive, but I’m not. It’s truly uninspired and downright awful. I could go on and on about how wonderful it used to be, but in the end I am just lamenting the loss of an old dear friend. I’ll just move on... In response to the owner's reply...you keep replying to reviews that the menu is the same. It’s not even close to the offerings and quality that defined the Bavarian for decades. Just be honest. You are building a brew pub and trying to draw in the college crowd. I don’t blame you for that. But please stop calling your restaurant “fine dining.” Those days are obviously and painfully over...

Delightful, hospitable inn–restaurant with a charming, luscious property. Old World feel with a modern twist. The wine list at the restaurant has an enviable section of quality German wines of many vintages. I got the sausage sampler and the spätzle, and both were deliciously, carefully prepared, and rich. The sauerkraut that came with the grilled sausage slices was meltingly unctuous. So good.

Very disappointed in our visit this weekend. Brought our numerous complaints to the attention of the Asst. Mgr. who responded with a condescending "I'm sorry you feel that way". Requested specifically in my reservation to not be in a specific building & that is where they assigned us. They did move us but it was a hassle. Check in was very uncomfortable, worker had me reaching over other guests to check in. Poor service from other personnel. Toilet ran half the night til we turned it off (requiring to be turned on again to be flushed). Yes, it was fixed the next day but PM would have prevented half a sleepless night. Why would you build a stone wall on a Saturday? Hearing the hammers pounding away was not peaceful. Food was very average. I used to love coming here for the atmosphere and service. Sadly that is a thing of the past. Shame on you Bavarian Inn.
