The man who helped me choose glasses order the wrong frame. Then he wanted me to take the wrong pair as a spare and purchase the correct pair again! It took over a month to recover my glasses!
I honestly wish I could give them a great review, as I love this place and Brian, however, you can not reach them on the phone EVER!.. I. literally mean they NEVER answer the phone, you have to go to their office to make an appointment! grrrrr.....
These doctors seem nice but the dude there is a crook knowing that the insurance will pay for my glasses and or contacts this man still charged me cash for my contacts he refused to respect the fact that I can’t make decisions for myself and that I’m on the healthcare proxy and have designated people appointed to do so the doctors name in question is Brian a Pearson LDO ophthalmology dispenser not only did I pay cash for my glasses I also pay cash for my contacts me while I have fidelis and Medicaid I should not have been put no cash out my pocket after my mother showed up and said we were leaving he pushed me n tried to lock me in the back against my will This man also put hands on my mom pushing my mother talk about he was calling the police on us. Again I paid cash for both my glasses and contacts.I am pschizophenic so this is them having me pay cash for something my insurance clearly covered. This is taking advantage of a mentally weak person
This is a more recent post. To start my problem is not so much the staff but the inconsistent office hours everywhere you look you will see different business hours. The second problem I've encountered is rarely will your phone call be answered. My glasses was ready in about a week but a month later I am still unable to pick them. Every time I went down there they were closed. Now I call before this 65 year old even considers the 3 mile walk up and down hills. Unfortunately no one has answered the phone yet but maybe one day I'll get lucky
Dont waste your time at 664 Bay Street..Go to 1300 Hylan Blvd instead,a 5 star doctor.. Absolutely horrible customer service at this" Bay Street Eye Doctor location"
I’ve been going to Dr powell since I was 18 years old. I’ve been a loyal customer and spent a lot of money there. I went to my appointment in March 2021 brought my own frames and paid in full over 400 dollars. I’m still waiting on my glasses. When you call nobody answeres. You go there there’s a line of people outside. I understand it’s COVID but 6 months waiting for glasses that i paid in full for is Unacceptable.
So my first time here I walked in a bit nervous because of all there bad reviews so I waited to be called and before I walked into get my eye exam I spoke to them about there reviews and they told me why they got bad reviews so I gave them a shot & I couldn’t believe how nice & genuine they were with me i guess we can all have good and bad experiences at times & mine was great , I will hope to see if I get my glasses in less then 2 weeks if my experience & service goes the way they told me about frames being in in less then 2 weeks I will be back ! Thank you for your kind and quick service
I really wanted to love this place and the doctor is very thorough, but I’ve been waiting 6 months on a repair of a $1,000 pair of glasses and they were supposed to be scratch resistant, hmm. No one will return my call, so I’m going to assume that I’m out of $1,,000. I’ve since gone to Cohens Optical Staten Island Mall and Warby Parker and had great experiences — and several pairs of fun glasses. I want add that I have continued calling for my glasses and now no one picks up.
I have been a patient at this office since I first needed glasses and for as long as I can remember, the optometrist Carolyn Powell is very unprofessional. I called to ask for my contact prescription because I moved to Long Island and needed to order more contacts and couldn't drive to her office in Staten Island, she proceeded to hang up on me and send me an expired prescription. Also on this prescription Carolyn wrote "no lens" for my right eye indicating that I only wear contact lenses on my left eye, which is not true, just a lazy way of writing that the prescription is the same for both eyes. See exactly what I mean in the attached photo. She printed this in 2021 but it expired in 2019. Don't waste your time at this place.
I came to this place in January ordered my glasses one free and one I need due to medical reasons. Well I got the free ones and it’s been almost 2 months and I’m still waiting on my other one I keep calling no answer. I showed up they said something about a mix up. I’m about to go back and get my money back and go somewhere else. This place is trash.
