Beeler Gallery at Columbus College of Art & Design is an active site for contemporary art practices and contingent fields.
The purpose of the Beeler Gallery is to awaken the Columbus and Central Ohio community to the richness and diversity of the human experience through the medium of contemporary art and design.
Beeler Gallery invites curiosity and collaborative learning through active engagement with ideas, artworks, and exhibitions. Programming tailored to foster formative connections between contemporary art and design and students of all ages is central. Critical to this end are direct experiential opportunities for Skidmore students to participate in integral aspects of museum practice.
At the heart of Beeler Gallery is an ambitious exhibition program of approximately twelve exhibitions each year, including a regular flow of exhibitions in it’s Project Room. Beeler Gallery originates nearly all of its exhibitions and regularly involves faculty and students from CCAD, Ohio State University and other colleges and universities in the Central Ohio region as advisors, curators and participants for its signature interdisciplinary exhibitions.
Beeler Gallery’s exhibitions and visiting artist and scholar program probes the boundaries of conventional curatorial practice, frequently crossing disciplines, and encompassing all types of media and objects to explore intersections between the visual, performing arts, literature and humanities in new and inventive ways.
The Tang also originates significant survey exhibitions of contemporary art, featuring major emerging and established artists. The Opener Series features artists who come to campus as part of their collaboration and often involve realizing new work.
As part of its mission, Beeler Gallery regularly produces catalogues to extend its projects beyond the gallery, and to provide valuable resources for future study. Catalogues include new writings by artists and scholars, and source interviews with many artists.
Beeler Gallery’s programming regularly includes artist dialogues, symposia, and lectures as a direct articulation of CCAD’s founding vision in which each area of study is connected to a range of other disciplines.
Beeler Gallery has focused for the last decade on bring new and important information from the realm of contemporary art and design to Columbus and the central Ohio region. It is located in CCAD’s Canzani Center at the center of the CCAD campus.
