To begin, everyone was telling us the wrong address to pick up an inpatient. “3120” IS NOT your address for in patient. 3116 is. Secondly, the counselors and Drs aren’t very helpful. They prescribe you some medication and give you a little talking session and throw you out after 3-5 days. People that actually need help need CARE and SUPERVISION and you can’t figure out everything that’s wrong with someone and what 5 medications to prescribe them in 3-5, 30 minute sessions. Please. If you are going to act as a behavioral health service, be one.

Edit: okay so I decided to give this place a second chance. I called them and they were equally rude and told me to bring a completely different list of documents than the first person I talked to. I gather up every document I have just in case I get there and they want something else. It took me a while to find the building and when I did umm.... it was sketchy to say the least. (Btw it’s the biggest one. 1st on the right behind... boot barn) There were 5+ rough looking people and a cop standing around outside for some reason. I opened the door and it smelled like an ashtray and looked like a... dmv or the social security office? With a line of several people. Completely dismal. I just left. With the rude people on the phone and these weirdos standing around outside I’m not going to come here. If you get a referral here ask for somewhere else! 2 stars- I’m giving them the benifit of the doubt because I wasn’t treated here but I was given a referral from my GP. I called to set up an appointment and the man on the phone was so ridiculously rude that I didn’t know their policy is to come in person to set up an appointment as a new patient. How am I supposed to know that? Before I can even get a question out he sighs and tells me a laundry list of things I’m required to bring in to make an appointment. I never did because if the way I was treated on the phone is any indication of the care I’d receive I will just go somewhere else. Considering the type of facility this is you would think they would be a little kinder to new patients. Not to mention the picture when you search is BOOT BARN? A bit off putting in my opinion.

If you're interested in therapy that you can participate in with your child, you should visit Valdosta State's Family Works clinic. It is open to the general public, and offers very affordable therapeutic care for individuals, families, non-married couples, married couples, the works! Walk-in clinic hours every Monday 12n-5pm and appointments available via phone call. They provide excellent relational therapy for any and everybody. Many people aren't aware of these services and seek mental health counseling when in fact that may not be the best route for them. Hope this helps! :)

If you must go here be your own advocate. The first time I met with Dr. Tanque (not sure if that’s correct spelling) he did a brief questionnaire and said he thought I had borderline personality disorder and told me I should look it up at home. Prescribed me medicine. I have been raped twice and been to other therapists who said I have PTSD. I don’t think he took me seriously at all. Maybe a cultural/gender thing; not sure. I went to the Haven for therapy yesterday and the therapist there agreed that it was probably good that I stopped going there. I definitely have PTSD but I’m pretty sure I’m not borderline and I don’t think he should make such diagnoses after meeting with you for about 10 minutes. It confused me for about a week I was scared that I had a serious mental illness when my other therapists have agreed that I have ptsd which is classified as a curable anxiety disorder (not a mental illness).

When we arrive we sign in and wait 30-40 minutes before my son goes back to see his counselor. If we are late for our appointment we have to reschedule....even though my son doesn't go back for 30-40 minutes. You have to sign in before your appointment time. The counselor doesn't discuss what they talk about with your child to you. You can't see the counselor and therapist the same day so my son misses a lot of school for it. I don't know what to do at home if communication from the counselor to myself isn't there. They want to keep increasing my sons medication. Sometimes we don't get the refill in time before he runs out and my son, who is 8, has withdrawals. Withdrawal last like he's a drug addict. I took him off starting of summer and he will not go back. We will take our business elsewhere, to a place who actually cares about my child and not making a paycheck.
