This facility is so bad that it needs negative stars. I tried to have the place shut down after my brother was there for suicide attempt from medication that he was given by a neurologist. He was diabetic and given snickers for a snack, potatoes, fries, pasta, etc. for his meals. When I confronted the head nurse she was shocked but continued to condone the issue. I had to threaten legal action to get my brother out after 72 hours. They drugged him to the point we could not understand him on the phone because he was slurring his words. Even after we told them NOT to given his that medication. He was afraid of them and he is not afraid of anything. They actually told me they would call the police and have me 1013 and commit me. That is when I grabbed my phone and said please call the police because I have my attorney on standby and he would love to hear this. At that point we had a doctor in the meeting and he said he would release him in the am. When we left my brother said they put every patient in a room and reading every word of the manual (they had never seen this before and apparently that was some compliance issue) They read it out loud. He said after we left the staff was different and walking on egg shells. I would not send a DOG to this place. HORRIBLE STAFF and Nurses do not check records, Doctors just there to sign off on what nurses given them. NEVER NEVER NEVER send a loved one to this unethical, abusive, jail, who threatens not only the patients but also the family. If they would do that to me, what do they do to these mentally ill patients who really need help? Breaks my heart.

I found it helpful. Wish there was more individual therapy but overall it was a good experience. Clay was especially helpful. The whole staff is nice. I’ve been there twice. This place helped my life at the end of the day and I appreciate that.

I went here because I was suicidal and stayed from Monday until Friday. The staff would openly LAUGH at their patients and ignore them, ignore their questions, ect. Water was controlled and they wouldn't let us drink it or go to the bathroom. No soap was provided. The place was filfthy. It honestly made me less suicidal to get out of there. Don't send your loved ones here. I am also allergic to peanuts and have lactose intolerance. They continuously tried to feed me peanuts and would get mad when I'd tell them I couldn't eat them. I was forced to drink milk (since there was no water for us most of the time). I got lactaid once.

So far regret Winn Army Hospital for recommending my wife go here. Took her here last Tuesday, was able to stay with her while she filled out papers, once they took her to the back we have had no contact at all. I attempted to call and each time my calls were transferred to about four different people. They could give me no updates or anything. One lady stated without a patient ID they couldn't give any info; it would have been nice to give the family members her ID number when they processed her in. Reading these reviews and the way my phones calls have been handled, I'm leaning more towards these reviews having truth to what has been written.

Money is the bottom line here. It’s understaffed by many unqualified workers who are so stressed with the overload of patients that they are unable to service anyone. Staff is trained to de-humanize patients in any way possible. You are herded like cattle into the cafeteria for meals. They rush rush rush you through the meals to the point I was never able to finish a cup of coffee. Trying to shovel your food down as fast as possible gives you indigestion. Workers often easily indicate that they are miserable in this job. There is a high turnover and I only assume that the lower level “techs” are treated by the higher ups the same humiliating, dehumanizing manner as the patients are treated. They are so understaffed that today while I was waiting to be signed out, a patient had a seizure. I am not refusing sympathy for the plight of this young man, but “dealing” with this “incident” literally shut the whole hospital down. No One was available for any service at all. If you asked you were told “not now, we are dealing with an incident”. No One was available, not a tech, not a therapist, not a nurse or nurse practitioner - the whole place was paralyzed for half an hour before EMT arrived. So what if there had been another “incident” at the same time. Incidents happen frequently in the more violent section of the hospital. There would have been no staff available for a second incident. With this gross lack of adequate qualified staff, Coastal Harbor cannot service the excessive number of patients in very overcrowded facilities. It’s dangerous and not at all beneficial to the vulnerable except to fatten the coffers of the main officers. They are more than dishonest when you are trying to leave, I saw within the first 24 hours that this was neither professionally run, nor had professional staff and requested to be released from day one. The next 3 days were an incredible story of asking someone who to speak to, that person saying they would go get the proper person to come talk to me. And they would disappear and no one would ever show up. I was lied to over and over just to prolong my stay. A major hissy fit was necessary after confrontation with a bold faced liar. When I demanded to see a supervisor, the nurse said she would send “April”, the supervisor to talk to me as soon as she was free. After waiting for 2 1/2 hours without “April” appearing, I went back to the nurse to ask how far down the line was I to speak to Ms April. She looked at me and said “You won’t see her because she has already spoken to you” I yelled in disbelief that I not only never saw Ms April but had never spoken to her. But the nurse continued saying “Yes, she told me she has spoken to you”. I was so upset so I ran back to my unit to grab my tech who I had been around all evening and drug him back to the nurses station. In front of this lying conniving woman, I asked him if Ms April had been in the unit. He answered no. I asked him if he saw me speak with April and he answered “No, she has not come to the unit today”. So I very forcefully demanded to see April. When she got to my room at 10:30 pm after lights out, I asked her “Do you know me?” She answered “I’ve seen you around but don’t know you”. I asked her if we had had a conversation with me and she answered “No”. I asked her if she had told PRN on duty that night if she had told her she had spoken with me. She answered emphatically “NO”. I told her what had transpired and she was shocked that the PRN would lie so blatantly. This is how they hold you for days to collect more insurance and want to keep you as long as possible. And if you are upset about being lied to all day, they don’t offer a solution - they just insist you take “this pill” and everything will be better. And NO ONE wears name tags so you cannot dentify them. Also, the other staff members sitting working alongside this filthy liar, all of a sudden cannot remember her name. Coastal Harbor is a horrible dangerous place for vulnerable people suffering a major depression or anxiety disorders.
