Great tasting coffee, great book selection, the egg sandwich was fresh and on nice ciabatta bread. Love that they offer “to stay” mugs. $1 refills on hot coffee is a nice perk too. Everything bagel was good, toasted well! There were fennel seeds on the bagel which definitely threw us for a loop. Don’t let that prevent you from ordering.
A cool cafe right by JHU, and has a significant amount of books available for purchase. No indoor seating as of now, but I assume that it’s due to COVID restrictions.Dine in: NoOutdoor seating: YesTakeout: YesDelivery: No
What's with the staff here? Most of them are so unfriendly. Even when you go out of your way to say hi, they respond with "what are you getting?" You can get me a person who knows how to greet me. They also make the lattes in a rush, over steam the milk and most times I'm walking away with a cappuccino instead of a latte. Latte art? Don't even think about it. Very lazy and unfriendly group. I even overheard a member of staff, the guy that always wears a baseball cap, ask a customer to move from a table so that larger groups can sit there. First, there were no larger groups waiting. There were other seats including outdoor seats available. Second, that man was waiting on a friend. The staff member should have double checked before making such a rude request. Third, there were 3 tables, each table with only one customer, but staff only asked that guy to move. Very strange. There are however two young ladies that are always friendly! One has very curly hair, half dyed blonde the rest black. The other girl is tall and usually has her hair in plaits and I think I've seen her in overalls. They are always sweet and courteous when I come in. This place has potential, but most members of staff need additional training.
Such a cute bookstore cafe! Great atmosphere, great food, and friendly staff!
Wonderful bookstore & cafe. We visited during our brief stay in Baltimore and enjoyed the stop. The bookstore is a little small, but the books are well organized and nicely displayed. There are some tables for indoor dining as well as some tables and other chairs outside. We enjoyed the outdoor seating area with our books and beverages while we were there. Staff was great.
This is a nice spot to grab some brunch and read a good book. The ambiance is nice, it's a cool vibe and a range of different people. The only issue I have is there needs to be more seating for the size crowd they draw in. I'd love to see it expand into a space that has comfortable couch seating and a fireplace. I'd probably never leave! Then again, that may be the reason they don't have it, lol.
The food was kinda expensive but that's to be expected for a place like this. The atmosphere was great, the staff very friendly and accommodating, and the general feel of the place is very comfortable and welcoming. Parking: We parked on St Paul Street at the meter.
Bird in Hand my go-to cafe and bookstore. Adjacent to the Johns Hopkins University's Homewood campus, they've got a great breakfast and lunch menu pastries, sandwiches, salads, tamales and excellent coffee selections. It's also a comfortable space, and while it gets busy during the school year, it's generally pretty easy to grab a table and/or a spot on the wide front patio. The only trouble is, I nearly always end up buying a book with my Greenhouse sandwich which, if you're a vegetarian, I highly recommend.
What am awesome place! Friendly patron vibe, cute interior, nicely curated selection of books. The food we ordered was good enough but didn't have any salt or seasoning. Will definitely return!Food: 3/5
The coffee and pastries are great but they never have standard flavorings. They'll always somehow have mint but haven't carried caramel or vanilla for the lattes all summer. Please bring them back!
