Love the concept of this school but had a bad experience with the teacher Chris Hemingway. The teacher canceled multiple times or forgot our lesson, was unreliable when trying to coordinate recital times, and was unprofessional when I tried to give constructive feedback. I tried to give feedback to the school management, but couldn't get a response from anyone. Unfortunately I won't be returning and will look for lessons elsewhere.
Great location for live up and coming talent. The winter holiday spectacular show was beautiful. The children really impressed me with their skills especially for the age ranges. Puts me to shame lol. Please donate to this school if possible they can always use the funds for students growth and development.
BROOKLYN MUSIC SCHOOL. Talented young individuals are mold shaped and fashioned here. The teachers and staff do a phenomenal job in teaching and mentoring these young mines. They are the BEST in Brooklyn.
My daughter took a class 5 years ago, The classes and Instructors are great, but this Place is so dirty and out dated, bathroom clog and dirty, dust all over like it haven’t been clean in years, that’s unacceptable for a place that teach kids. And the theatre were kids perform is terrible broken chairs, floors … they need to renovate the entire Place, deep clean and keep it like that!!! Other than been dirty the Place have great location, and very friendly staff. I hope everything change so my kids can go back.
Would not send my child here. The leadership is disengaged. Parents doesn’t even know who runs the building. There is a high turnover rate with the employees so there is always someone new around your child and/or chaos in its ARY children’s program. The building is falling apart with molding, broken windows, doors that doesn’t lock, broken theater chairs the theater like the last reviewer mentioned is still disgustingly hot if you attend any of their shows or visit in the summer for summer camp, the basement floods and etc. There is no safety plan so therefore there’s never a fire drill or other mandatory procedures happening. There was a rat infestation over the year and you would be able to smell dead rats throughout the building or even see rats running around the building in broad daylight around the kids! Staff there has not gotten paid three consecutive pay periods in a row which is one of the many reasons why employees are constantly quitting directors, teachers, counselors, finance department and leadership positions. This place needs to be investigated and shut down. Just take a visit for yourselves and you will see. I am also not interested in any response from the organization as nothing has changed in all the years that I knew this place. It has especially gotten gotten worse over the last two years.
Used to be such a good school but this year it has been nothing other than disappointment. My kids are literally repeating the same content in classes, parents cannot talk to teachers, permanent confusions with pick ups and charges of 30% of the registration for dropping classes before even starting! after being told no fees would be charged and all registration would be refunded.
Went to the special valentine event feat Janis Russell and all the students of the school; children, young as well as adults. It was truly inspiring and we had an amazing night. Recommend all to go there for one of their events.
My daughter was in contemporary dance with Courtnee Richards. When my child expressed interest in ballet, Courtnee stated the following in writing, “I don’t force my boyfriends to be dope. I don’t force my girlfriends to be perfect and I don’t force children to do what they don’t want to do. She was extremely inappropriate. She let me know that my child was the only black child in the class and that she was surprised to see my child again. This girl is mentally unstable and should not be teaching anything to children.
My kids have taken private lessons and group lessons at Brooklyn Music School for the past 5 years. We’ve done classes for toddlers, dance, and group music classes and private lessons. Our kids still currently take private lessons and have gone to the summer camp which has been a wonderful experience for all of us. The teachers are phenomenal and we’ve seen our children develop an appreciation for music and grow as individuals. Our children play violin and guitar respectively and our daughter absolutely loves the Strings summer intensive and asks to go back every year. The location is great in Ft Greene with access to every train at Atlantic Street and close to the G and A train. The building is beautiful and holds a lot of charm. The staff and teachers again are really remarkable and caring people. Check them out they rock and we love them.
My daughter had been coming for many years. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My child had truly grown as an individual as a performer because of their guidence, and the family feeling just cannot be replicated anywhere else. There are class for all levels and very affordable. After 7 years, I plan on keeping my child here through her teen years where she can then become a mentor. Nothing but great things!!
