I've been studying with Bruce Ornstein for nearly three years now. And I'm very careful with what I do with my money, so I wouldn't still be here if I didn't think it was worth it. Over these few years, Bruce has coached me through many instances of scene study and hundreds of instances of exercise work. He's a very competent director; he just has that something special in his eye that shows him the most dramatically effective way to move forward with a scene. And he really is just a great guy. I've learned a lot from Bruce, and what he's taught me will help me pursue acting as a career for as long as I'm doing it. I've gained a lot of confidence because of Bruce, which If you go to his website, you can see for yourself the kind of lessons and advice he has to give. Two especially, on his recommendations for auditions, and his philosophies on acting for the stage. For free. It's really helpful stuff. And if you like that taste, his class is more than worth the try. It certainly has been for me. I've come to respect Bruce as a teacher and care about him as a friend.
I have been studying with Bruce for about 8 months. I have studied with many other teachers. Within that time I have gained the ability to learn how to finally open up. Bruce has a way of teaching you, differently than most other teachers, both through exercises and scene study. He has a way of figuring out what blocks you specifically have and helps you break through them. He differentiates his instruction to the specific actor, not to the scene. I am grateful to Bruce for both his insight and his intelligence. I have gained much from knowing him both professionally and personally.
Read this review if you are interested in acting to be a professional actor and also if you want to take acting to learn about yourself as a person, who you really are. And I want to say thank you to Bruce for that. I was in his class for 2 years. You will be surprised how much you don't know about yourself and can find out with Bruce's help. Each class starts with a discussion about everything that is going on and atmosphere in Bruce's class is such that you totally feel safe and comfortable sharing with what is going on with you and everyone supports everyone. Learning acting could be a life changing experience and it was for me and only for the better. I recommend Bruce 100%.
I have been studying off and on with Bruce Ornstein for over ten years. When I say "off and on," that really means my attending classes. My relationship is always on. Bruce is always a phone call or a text away when you need him whether the need is professional or personal. Personal, that is the perfect word to describe Bruce and his training techniques. He meets every actor where they are and then tailor makes a program specifically for that actor. He challenges you and pushes you to limits that no other teacher can or will do. He doesn't sugar coat it either. He tells you what you need to know and not what you want to hear. Whenever I thought there was nowhere left to go with my character, Bruce would show me something or mention something that made me delve even deeper. His direction and teaching style has you always improving. You're never resting or settling on your laurels. If you are looking for superb teaching, great networking opportunities and a lifelong relationship, look no further. Bruce Ornstein's classes are the real deal for the serious actor who hasn't got a Plan B.
I have been a student of Bruce Ornstein for many years now. To date, he has been the definition of a great teacher in acting, directing, writing, theater and film. More so, it is important and even more so relevant to say the he has been a teacher in life. What is so differentiating as an instructor, is that Bruce is well aware of the need not to waste time, and tell a student what is needed more than what is wanted to be heard. Often times in this industry, for the sake of making money, teachers will placate students, singing their praise to stroke their egos, resulting in students developing false hopes. Those teachers retain students until the students run out of money or give in to failure. This is NOT the case with Bruce. Bruce is a man that is serious, and all about a students growth. He is a teacher that fully understands that growth is not always easy. He has always and will always maintain integrity, and give a student direction and instruction needed to develop those skills to become a great actor. There is and was never any disillusions. He has always had the integrity and courage to tell the truth. He is here to be your teacher and mentor, dedicating 110% to your betterment. I have seen many weak students become very distinguished actors, beyond what they have ever expected due to having the will and grit that many actors both talented and not talented lack. I have to say; if you're serious about being an actor, and believe you have the grit to put in the hard work, there is no better instructor anywhere. Thank you Bruce. For me, every day is rehearsal, and everyday after has been a successful performance!
It's impossible for me to imagine a better person to learn the craft of acting from. However, to put it simply, the experience with Bruce goes beyond being an actor, or an artist, or even creating. It transcends into discovering how to be the best person one can be, and in turn, learning how that can inform one's creativity. To that end, I, and many others, owe Bruce a great deal. He is a singularly incredible man, with equally incredible insight, and I couldn't imagine being on this journey that I'm on without him. I thank him dearly. 5 stars on this site don't do him justice.
I found Bruce's class by chance online over a year ago and so glad I did. The exercises are incredibly challenging, but fun, allowing you to explore your own creativity by challenging yourself to break through barriers. ANYONE can benefit from his class. It's been a life changing experience. A good friend of mine was brought into a world renowned acting institute here in NYC first letter is 'L', studying their method to ultimately teach there. I told him about Bruce's class and what we do there. His response was only in admiration, because the exercises and processes Bruce teaches and uses for his students work. Bruce loves and lives what he does for us, and it shows.
Got my BA in Theater at Queens College. Continued to study around the city under legends Peter Miner, Kamal Scott, Krakower, Susan Batson… After one particular coaching relationship went bad, my buddy recommended Bruce to me. I joined his class but had to leave immediately; after just a month with Bruce. I booked the lead in the Off-Broadway Musical COMFORT WOMEN. Since then, I continued to study with Bruce between shows and have been with him over 3 consecutive months now, preparing for my own film. Bruce is the best teacher I’ve ever worked with. No matter how puzzled I am by the craft, he instantly makes sense of it with calm confidence. He’s a phone call/text message away during the week. If the class finishes early, he tirelessly extends it. He is more challenging, more patient, more informative, more nurturing, and more accessible than any teacher I’ve known. He’s as invested in my career as I am. A great teacher doesn’t “teach” acting so much as he challenges us to dive into our fears. Not every teacher is good at this. Not every actor can face his true self. As for that one negative review down there, I wonder if the challenge of facing himself was too daunting. ‘Cause the only real problem with Bruce’s class is he should be charging more.
Bruce is a brilliant teacher. He understands and respects each student’s individuality and has superior skills as a director, mentor and an actor to bring his students to the level they never thought they could reach. I’ve been fortunate to study with this open, encouraging and caring teacher and let me tell you, once you start studying with Bruce, you become a life-long student of his! He’s the man!
Bruce Ornstein’s ’s workshop was life changing for me. He has a rare and unique gift that quickly becomes evident from the very first class. The experience I gained as an actor, in life experience, and in having a greater understanding of human behavior, are all invaluable to me to this day. Some of my fellow classmates have gone on to become well know film actors while others are staring in Broadway shows.. For me it wasn’t in the cards to be my career yet! I’m so very happy and grateful to have found Bruce and his class!!
