This place is horrible. I booked a truck through Budget, and had a confirmation number. I predicated flights, hotels, and travel off of doing an out of state move for my deceased sister off of the idea of having a truck to use. Less than 24 hours before I was supposed to pick-up, and while getting ready to leave for the airport. The rude employee of this location called me and told me they had no truck available. When I protested that I had a confirmation, the guy hung up on me.
The absolute worst customer service I have experienced with vehicle rentals. A guy who worked there was condescending, inconsiderate, and most of all unhelpful. I’m Return my moving truck 2 day before my contract try to call every day see no one answer phone
This location looks abandoned. We had an appointment to pickup at 10:00 am. Hours of operation posted online and on the door were open at 8:00. The store was locked and no one was inside. No response when tried by phone. Corporate customer was not helpful.
Our family is moving to Dallas over the weekend, and rent a 16' truck at this location. I met Michael at the location he called me early informing me my truck was ready. He had great patience showing me the truck and how to operate it as I told him this is my first time driving a truck across states. Very down to earth guy and very detailed on information that I need to know of. Thank you for good services and it really deserve a 5 starts!
Stay away. Owner is rude and condescending. We had a reservation. Upon arrival the owner required insurance for $52 per day even though Budget contract did not require it. We've rented many Budget trucks without a mandatory requirement of insurance purchased from Budget. Since this was new us my husband called me to confirm since I made the reservation. He put the owner on the phone who said that our USAA car insurance did not cover truck rental. When I asked him about our credit card insurance I noticed no answer. He had already handed over the phone to my husband. We have extended coverage for $100,000 from American Express in addition to the free insurance provided by the credit card. I did not have a chance to tell him that because he cut me off before I finished speaking to him. It is understandable for different locations to have different policies but an owner should be able to communicate. He did not even answer my question. This Budget owner is disrespectful to customers. Not only was he rude to my husband but he even called the police on him, when there was no need to. While calling the police he said something along the lines of "come get this Hispanic in a Blue shirt out of my shop". The policeman that showed up was courteous and told my husband that the owner had a "nasty attitude" and had called the police before on other customers. We're thankful for the Police Department's assistance but very appalled at this shop owner's behavior and attitude. I hope that Budget Corporation addresses this location because even previous reviews show that many customers have had a bad experience with this guy. Reviews don't lie. Stay away from this place!
I reserved a truck from Budget through their web site on July 20th to pick up on July 28th at the Budget Of Columbia SC location - 408 Blossom Street, Columbia, SC 29201. The pickup time was due to be 9am. We arrived at the location at 8:45am to see a sign on the door "We are currently out picking up equipment." There were three other customers in the parking lot, all waiting. At 9:05am, I called the 1-800 number on the door and began to work my way through various customer service representatives. The third person finally told me that there was nothing Budget could do and that we just needed to wait for the owner to appear. We waited another 30 minutes and I called the location's phone number at 9:45am. He had previously not been answering the number, but this time he picked up. I asked him when he would be back to give us our truck, but he refused to say. He just kept repeating that he was "picking up equipment" and that he had no trucks to give us - even though there were 6 or 7 in the gate next to the building. I kept asking questions and I told him that there were three other customers in the parking lot waiting and finally all he would say was a phone number for Budget's "inventory management" department. I left without getting a truck that day - and I had driven two hours to get to Columbia to pick up the truck. We spent almost a half a day to get to Columbia and back for no purpose.
The absolute worst customer service I have experienced with vehicle rentals. A guy who worked there was condescending, inconsiderate, and most of all unhelpful. I had reserved a vehicle the day before. The vehicle was there and everything was good. The guy the proceeds to ask me for proof of insurance covering the rental, which is no problem. I then proceed to call my insurance agent and my mother on 3way. As I’m working to get him the information, I exclaim that this was inconvenient for me because I had to do a lot of stuff that day and this was putting me behind schedule. The guy states that “it’s not an inconvenience, to which I replied “that it was”, obviously an inconvenience. He then goes on to restate “no it’s not” and proceeds to say that the information was on the website. So I told him again that this is for me, at this time, an inconvenience...and that I’m not going to argue with him about the state of my inconvenience, and if he wants to keep arguing with me instead of being helpful then I’ll take my money elsewhere. To which he shrugged his shoulders and said “ok”...then he walked back into the building for which he did not return for an entire 20mins. People come to moving companies because for convenience. This was the exact opposite of being helpful. If he wanted to be helpful he could had offered me the insurance package that was purchasable, but instead he was rude, condescending, and unhelpful over all. Not to mention that my girl friend called up there to see what happens with the rental and he lied and said that the truck wasn’t there or available to rent. Wow! This guy is slimy! I filled a formal complaint to which they were to find me another truck and use from a different location. I never got a call back about the status of that rental, and on the final step of escalation in my complaint. Looks like the whole company doesn’t value customer service, so I will be using other truck rental services from now on.
Had a pick-up time of 4:00pm for a truck, car carrier, and handtruck rental. I called around 3:00 to see if we could pick it up a bit earlier. The guy on the phone said “well we were hoping you would because we close at 4.” So I go down to the location and he’s having us fill out paperwork. The whole time while filling out paperwork, he’s checking the clock and telling us “11 minutes”, “you have 8 minutes”, and so on. I had to call my car insurance company to see if they covered the truck rental and while on the phone, he kept reminding me of how much time I had. He said if I didn’t fill out the paperwork by the time they closed, I couldn’t take the truck and the reservation would be cancelled. I could have picked it up earlier if they would have called me. While going over the details of the truck, I noticed there wasn’t a hand truck which I really needed being that I had quite a bit of boxes, furniture, etc and I also lived in an apartment building. I asked where the hand truck was and he said “oh we don’t have any, but don’t worry, I’m not charging you for it”. Seeing as I’ve had that reservation for at least a WEEK, it would have been nice to know that in advance so I could find another one to use. Also, I would HOPE you would not charge me for something that I can’t even use because you “ran out”. Long story short, don’t waste your time here. I was also charged about $130 at the drop-off location and received no invoice for the extra charges until I called to ask about them. Never will use Budget again.
I've been renting from this location for the last 5 years. Out of all that time, there have only been a couple of times; around Christmas, when UPS gets over 40 trucks from them for the holiday season, that they haven't been able to have a truck for me. I also try not to wait until the last second to reserve a truck. Plan ahead for your move and send the reservation in early, not same day and not the day before, and Mike will be able to take care of you.
I reserved the truck four days in advance. I come to pick it up because they have a ton of trucks and the manager confirmed that. Then, I come to get it with my reservation and the system is down and they cannot rent a truck to me. He said without a computer there's nothing they can do without that. He told me it may come back up and he would try customer service--but they never picked up. Avoid at all costs! He has a store full of people waiting and all he said to do is sit and wait.
