Cafe Genevieve

Definitely call ahead for a reservation. We did, so we were able to get a seat quickly. They were pretty crowded but it was a holiday weekend so I’m not sure what it’s like normally. It’s a pretty tight fit and we were by the one bathroom but the food made it worth it. We went for breakfast but our kids don’t really like breakfast and it was 15 minutes before they started serving lunch. Our waitress was really great and did lunch items for our kids anyway. The food came out pretty quickly and it was all fresh Ingredients and everyone loved what they ordered. The staff were really friendly; even the ones that weren’t our waiting on our table. They were all really happy, helpful and didn’t try to rush us out even though the the place was insanely busy. I would definitely recommend this place.

Very good food, but also a bit pricey. Cute old house converted into a restaurant and it's right in the down town and a park. The salmon dish was great and by boyfriend got the elk steak and he said it was the best meal of the trip

It’s very unclear to me how this restaurant has these accolades and ratings. Maybe we had a bad night, but the food, service and ambience lacked even the faintest semblance of a 4+ star experience. A few examples: Service. Our server forgot an appetizer and failed to check in on us after bringing the main. Food/drink: from the time we placed our order until we received our food was less than ten minutes signaling a lack of freshness. The Mac and cheese could be from a box. The wine had turned to vinegar and was undrinkable. Ambience: dirty and poorly lit. All this at an establishment with entrees hovering around $25-35. With so many great options in JH, I highly recommend looking past Cafe Genevieve.

The food is really good. The seating is tight and the portions are small, but adequate. It was probably the most expensive breakfast I've ever had in my life. It reminded me of New York City. I will probably not eat there again but I think everyone should try it at least once.

Not impressed. The prices are too high in my opinion for the proportion and the food all lacked flavor in my opinion. We ordered pasta for my son and it was literally pasta with parmesean on it. He barely ate any of it. The chicken was dry and the hamburgers were undercooked and bland especially my 2 year old daughter’s. The service was not good and food took about 30 min and we were the only ones there. Considering there are much better options around I’d recommend going somewhere else.
