Located in the Neue Galerie, Café Sabarsky draws its inspiration from the great turn-of-the-century Viennese cafés.
In 2001, chef Kurt Gutenbrunner was asked to open a café based on the fin-de-siècle Kaffeehaus to accompany the opening of the Neue Galerie, the showcase for Ronald S. Lauder and Serge Sabarsky's lifelong devotion to German and Austrian art. Gutenbrunner took this opportunity to open Café Sabarsky, which features approachable Viennese fare (including an acclaimed, traditional breakfast menu) and German and Austrian wines and beers in an elegant but relaxed setting.
Café Sabarsky is outfitted with furnishings true to the period, including lighting fixtures by Josef Hoffmann, furniture by Adolf Loos, and banquettes that are upholstered with a 1912 Otto Wagner fabric.
