Have been to capitol theater multiple times and it is always a joyful experience. All the staff is very kind from cost checking to concessions to asking for seat directions. The productions are absolutely exquisite and a wonderful experience. The seats are very narrow and can feel very cramped with adults next to adults all in a row - which also makes the theater very warm during long shows. Overall a very charming historical theater and can’t wait to come back for our next show.
I love this theatre from a historic perspective. Such good character. But, from a comfort standpoint, newer venues are better. Seats are narrow and rows are closer together. Air circulation is not as good and as such we get hot during performances. But, we still love this location and go whenever possible.
We visited the Captiol Theater for a college graduation. The building architecture is fantastic. The acoustics were great. There is ample seating. The seats are standard performance arts seats. I would have liked to have seen more upfront seating for guests to physical limitations. I love all the little cherubs cast into the cement work.
We recently went to see Who’s Line Live at the Capitol Theater, and while the show was great, I can’t really say the same for the theater itself. They didn’t open the doors early enough, resulting in a massive line down the entire block and not enough time for us to really enjoy the building even though we arrived 30 minutes prior to curtain. They had TERRIBLE sound issues, the ceiling has a couple places where there’s clearly water damage, and their electricians clearly aren’t on top of maintaining their lighting gear. As a former theatrical electrician, that really bugged me. They also have some terrible architectural decisions when it comes to crowd management. I’ve been to a lot of beautiful theaters and the Capitol wasn’t the best experience.
Lovely theatre, I love taking my family to these old buildings with the architecture, statues in the ceiling, etc. The seating was good, the show was fantastic. Being able to tell them about this 111 year old building and how things were handmade at that time and how cool it is was a fun experience, though some thought the faces carved were creepy. The restoration of the building and the fact that it's still in operation is really good. We saw "Fighter" as for the show, the singers were so good, the Ariel show was amazing and the story was fun and uplifting. we have decided that we need to get out and visit the theatre more often.
The lobby was stunning, and arriving is a great experience. The staff was extraordinary and helpful all the way through 'till we were in our seats. The Swan Lake pageantry was so beautiful and the orchestra was outstanding. The seating was a little cramped for us and most of the people around us; with lots of straining to get a better view, and people moving to empty seats during intermission and blocking the view for the people behind them. Still loved it though!
Beautiful theater! Saw a ballet. The extra price for the boxes actually results in trading proximity to the stage for losing a view of the closest wing. It also let's you see into the wing of the backstage... which is cool to see what happens back there, but changes the immersiveness in the actual performance.
We have attended a four shows at the Capitol Theatre over the past two years. I find that the seating is comfortable and it is a beautiful theatre. I love the variety of entertainment that they bring to the Salt Lake City area. My only complaint with the venue is that they struggle with consistently comfortable climate control. We were roasting up in the balcony during a showing of the Nutcracker, and uncomfortably hot on the main floor at a recent show that we attended. We have had main floor seating at two other shows and the temperature was comfortable. So I suggest dressing in layers.
Beautiful theater. Ballet West did an amazing job on The Nutcracker. Balcony stairs are steep, but there's not a bad seat in the house. The only bad thing was they ran out of cookies right when we got to the table, but it was nice they were giving them out for the premiere.
What an absolutely beautiful theater. The staff was super nice and the performance was outstanding. We saw the nutcracker and it was marvelous. It is handicap accessible if needed.
