Came simply to check out the guitars and the store. Rick and Cindy were very welcoming, informative and willing to answer general questions about how the guitars are made, the history of the shop etc. Hopefully next time we come is to purchase a guitar. They were absolutely beautiful and works of art.
This place is a gem. Went in after hearing some good things online, and every thing they say about this place is true. Rick and all the staff are just awesome through and through and provide nothing but top notch service. Had my partscaster assembled here and setup best setup I’ve ever played and it’s hard to think anyone in NYC does what these guys do better. The price and workmanship are unmatched, and I’d recommend this place 11 times out of 10 : Thank you for doing what you do!
this place has gotta be my favorite guitar store ever! Rick is a super nice and friendly guy, he is very humble, and laid back. The guitars look and feel phenomenal, I bought a shirt and some pins, and received a good chunk of knowledge. the store is beautifully decorated, and all around fun would recommend to anyone, not just guitarists, or luthiers
This is an awesome shop! Great place for all guitar fans. The guitars are made in the workshop on sight!!
Rick does good work however, don't expect gratitude for bringing business to the store. I had my guitar worked on he gave me a price than they tried to charge more which created a bit of conflict. If one quotes a price you have to honor that. After seeing his A-list of cliental I understood why the iceyness. Maybe me being Hispanic added to that. The signal I picked up was " I built guitars, you don't" Maybe if you purchased one of his over price guitars you might get a thank you?
Kelly Telecaster style guitars are the best I've ever seen and heard. I lusted after them but could not afford one. In the 90s I used to visit his store on lunch break worked on Varickand he always let me hang out and play an acoustic. Always. Better than Boo. You don't run a printing press stoned. Ever. Relieved my stress. Always. Belated thank you Rick.
I finally paid a visit to Carmine Street Guitars in the West Village last weekend. It was a busy Saturday in the shop, but Rick Kelly took time to talk with me & my family. I have been admiring his guitars for many years, and it was so nice to see everything in person. This is the kind of old school craftsmanship that is so important in guitar building. Each of his instruments tells a story. He invited me back to his workshop to take a few pics. I left with a shirt and a few guitar picks this time, but I will be back for a guitar! Thanks again, Rick!
We walked 25 minutes to this place after checking the business hours on Google maps, only to arrive to a boarded up store front saying that they’re closed due to Covid?? It’s October 2021, nothing is closed due to Covid anymore. And the sign on the door also says “we know Google Maps says we’re open, but we’re not”. Pretty sure that’s something that they could correct easily online.
When we entered the store we did not realize someone owner was sitting in the dark corner of the Shop. We were ignored by the owner and not welcomed. We came from Germany to New York to see some guitars there, wanted to play some and maybe buy one. Read about the Shop before and it should become one Highlight at our New York trip. It was exactly 5pm as we entered the Shop on halloween and here is exactly what the Shopowner said at we asked him if it would be possible to test the guitar in front of us: 1st Sentance' "this is a customer repair", 2nd Sentance: "we don't have any guitars to sell. Sold out", 3rd sentance: "... Have to close earlier, because of the parade". I was speechless. I have never been treated as rude as in this store. I did nothing wrong. What should I say, I am so dissapointed. I guess they do not need to be friendly and sell something.
Classic greenwich village guitar shop, they do a fantastic setup for a totally fair $45.
