At the most recent visit, the practice did not have our scheduled appointment in their system. Some of the vets are excellent and we've received adequate care. However, it's clear that the practice is much better suited for dogs than cats and is not equipped for senior cats or their complex health issues. They are currently extremely overloaded- long hold times on the phone, no responses to voicemail or email messages.
We take all 3 of our pets here, all cats. The vets here are wonderful and thorough and the receptionists are very patient and kind. Ruby the receptionist gave me great advice on health insurance and sent me all my cats’ medical records without even asking, and remembered our convo and gave me a brochure unprompted when I came in for my other cat’s appointment. Today my cat had an accident in the car on the way over and the staff helped me get my cat and carrier cleaned up. All around wonderful and no matter where we move in the city we’ll always come here.
When it comes to your pet you want your vet to care for them as much as you do. You can read negative reviews as I did and scratch your head and wonder. It’s unfortunate those folks had an experience that was less than ideal. However, spend two minutes in the lobby and you can observe the caring and kindness this office operates with. Not only did every pet get hugs and kisses by the staff even the insanely loud disturbing ones but when it came to my questions which were obviously basic and had been fielded by the staff a million times, it I felt their attention and care. No… nobody held my hand and praised my pup and stroked my back… what they did do is gove me all my options, worked with my budget and employ a staff that are clearly infatuated with animals and their well being. I even overheard an interaction the staff had on the phone that ended and they said to the co-worker of theirs “she was asked to pay blank that’s not fair, I’m not asking them to do that. While they aren’t handing out discounts it was clear this office cares about their service as well as our pets. They go above and beyond and have knowledgeable people there to provide great care to animals and humans :
Apparently Dr Hess is not as compassionate as she should be. She wouldn't even touch Bella. She called Bella a Down Dog because of her age. A 14 year old dog deserves every bit of care that you give a puppy. It a life. No dog should ever be turned away for any reason. Her license should be revoked.
where is Johnathan? He was amazing, sweet, understanding and lovely and would gently hold your pets. He should have been a vet assistant but was behind the desk and yelled at by the owner when he worked there. Where is he? Please bring he back. We want kind and gentle people touching our animals!
Dr. Miller and his wonderful staff have been caring for my animals 4 dogs and six cats since 1984. He and they have been as important to me as my family doctor. They get five stars from me.
I have recently had 3 visits to this veterinarian. The first visit was scheduled for 9 AM. I arrived 5 minutes early. I was told that the doctor was running a little late. I understand things can happen during a commute so initially this was not a problem. I was told to wait outside due to COVID. I waited for almost 45 minutes without hearing anything from the clinic. I called for an update and they told me they could not find her records even though I had sent and confirmed they had received the records prior to my visit. I re-sent the records. After waiting another 45 minutes, the doctor called me. She prescribed medication, but told me they could not get a urine sample that was needed for a full diagnoses. I took my cat in again several weeks later for a urine sample after I brought in a sample from home that they said they could not use. My cat was at the office for 4 hours, but they were "unable to obtain a sample due to stress on the cat." When I came to pick up my cat, the carrier was covered in cat urine. This made me assume that they had left my cat in her carrier for 4 hours and made no attempt to get urine while she peed in her carrier. In my third visit, I took my cat in for vaccinations. This time, I was able to enter the office. When I was with the doctor, they gave me generic advice about my cat and seemed fairly stand-offish to me. They told me a blood test was needed along with the scheduled vaccinations. I approved and did not realized how much the test would cost the staff did not alert me of the cost. Upon leaving, I received a bill that was not itemized and was about twice what I was expecting to pay for the visit. I followed up and received an itemized receipt. All costs were more expensive than I had payed with previous vets. I understand the Upper East Side has high rents and the vet needs to charge more, but the care I received did not justify the high prices. After three visits, I have left the office feeling confused, angry and frustrated with the care and service that my cat received. I know that caring for animals is difficult, but the service I receive at a vet office should not make a situation with a sick animal any worse. I will be seeking out another vet in the future.
This place did not treat me well. I took my cat in with very specific issues - losing teeth and a bump on her tail - and I wanted some professional help. Dr. Hess did not tell me anything that I did not already know. She had a horrible attitude with me and didn't even give me any advice on the problems. When she told me what she found with her exam, she simply repeated the issues I brought my cat in for in the first place. Any human being could have told me this information. I understand that more specific tests are needed, but I was still hoping for any kind of recommendations at all. Skip this place and try another vet who has more professional manner.
I've had several horrific experiences here. Most recently, I showed up with my dog who I was concerned may have had an infection. I called beforehand to make sure I could go with my dog to the back room, especially since I was allowed to at my previous visit two months prior. They said absolutely. When I arrived, the vet asked to take the dog into the back and I very calmly asked if I could go with them. She said no and again I asked, calmly, why not. I explained I am vaccinated, recovered several weeks prior from covid and was wearing a KN95. I even took a rapid test and had a picture of my results before going in. The vet began to YELL at me say that she was uncomfortable with me and that she refused to see me. She then started talking to the Vet Tech as if I wasn't standing there and told me I had to leave and that she was uncomfortable. I literally just stood there in shock, I didn't even respond. The vet tech explained to me that they had several people out with covid and they can't risk letting me back with my dog. I was very confused and tried again explaining that all the steps I had taken to ensure their safety. They said absolutely no way I can go back. I gave them my dog because I really needed him to be seen. They said they were going to run a quick test to check for the infection. 25 minutes passed and I saw people coming and going from the room my dog was in. I was so anxious the entire time because I had no idea what they were doing. It didn't help that the receptionists were very nasty in how they were speaking about the phone calls they were receiving after they hung up. People were calling about getting tags and documents and they receptionists hung up the phone and began saying things like "well they'll have to wait, we're busy and they're not our priority right now." I felt bad for those calling who just wanted paperwork that was probably very late. Finally they just returned my dog to me and said everything was fine, it wasn't what I thought it was at all. That was relief of course. Then I went to go pay and they said it was $280. I was shocked, a 25 minute visit. I had NO idea what they did in there so I asked. They then said, oh well we are running a PCR test that's over $100 to check for the infection. I was confused because the vet just told me it's absolutely not an infection. They then said I didn't have to run the test, they were just putting it on there. I asked them to take it off. The visit still came to well over $100 because they did a whole check-up and physical that I had absolutely no idea about. They didn't share any information about my dog with me at all. No weight, no checkup details - nothing. I left horrified and told them I would never be returning. I have since been to another vet and let me tell you- it was a world of a difference. PLEASE - if you love your pet - DO NOT GO HERE.
