Highly recommend. No frills, excellent homemade Cantonese food, and a good value. $8 lunch special, rice and 3 dishes with a bonus cup of broth. I arrived just before 12pm Sat and several beautiful freshly hot dishes were ready to be served. I got the pigs feet, soy sauce chicken and steamed fish, great flavors and just like how my parents made them. There were at least 20 dishes that I'll have to come back for! No room for seating, except for a lonely table outside. Seward park is close enough to enjoy!
Carol's Bun is a small Chinese takeout restaurant wedged between Chinatown & the Lower East Side on East Broadway. there's no seating except for a single table out front...the interior is basically the narrow area where you order from the already-prepared hot foods on display OR place an order for the kitchen. most people order from the hot food bar where you can pick and choose whatever is on display and prepared that day. the dishes rotate daily, so it's not the same choices every day. the food, here, is exceedingly good for the price. last time i was here--i got the special which is three sides over rice and got curried chicken and vegetables, fried batter fish, and bokchoy. the serving is ample and you get a lot of each side as well as rice. the rice was fluffy and tasted fresh bc the turnover is high so they constantly have to make more. the chicken curry and veggies was really flavorful. and the fried battered fish was crunchy and savory. definitely a great place to try if you're hungry and want a variety of eats on one plate. the special of three sides over rice is $7.50 + tip. Carol is friendly and patient. i have only been here after the lunch rush and there are a lot of dishes still available.
A take out place that offers authentic Cantonese food. I had , ,. All of them taste great. Clean and fresh. There is one small table outside the store no place to sit inside so it's for takeout only.
Carol’s Bun is a nice hole-in-the-wall located in Chinatown. I went there to grab a Too Good To Go order and also ordered their fried shishamo which was delicious. The lady threw in a free soup for me which was really nice. They are cash only but they also take Venmo.
Lunch combo of whatever is fresh and hot for $8 is a great deal with lots of diverse flavors. My colleague got this, and I will be sure to get it next time. I had beef brisket over rice which was a generous portion, quick, and delicious. Ate out on the one table on the street. There was a constant and steady line during the 30 min I sat there.
This place is amazing! They make Chinese comfort foods that remind me of home and everything is so delicious. Speedy service and the ladies who work there are always friendly. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!
Easy, cheap delicious, and to the point. Take out only authentic cantonese food. Will be returning!
Sometimes the most satisfying dishes are cheap eats. Carols bun is a small spot with some really delicious food. It's a go to spot for office workers in the area. Nothing fancy just solid taste. You have a variety of hot options 3 items over rice for $7.50! I got pork chops, sweet and sour pork and eggs in a tomato sauce over rice. Really really good. Lots of flavor and tender meat. The eggs in the tomato sauce was really good as well.Hit the spot. It's a take out spot . There is one table to sit in front.
I'm so glad to discover this place. Don't bother with the menu items, go inside and check out the off the menu dishes already prepared and for you to pick and choose. You can select 3 items and comes with rice and soup for $7. Choices were limited when I got here at 5:00. I got the half braised duck which was packed and heavy for $12! When I get half a duck at other places, they omit the wing and lacking meat. The taste is delicious, almost as good as Bo Ky. I also got an entree size of the Thai sweet chilli fried chicken. The lady gave me all of it since it's close to closing. The flavor is really good, but the skin was no longer crispy. That's was expected, but it's really delicious. Also got the cooked broccoli and bok choy. Everything cost $22 and meals to last for days.
Very tiny old space. I saw people recommend this place for lunch combo or dish to take out. I got fried shishamo $8 and pig ears $7.5 Both dish was amazing. Everything is fresh made everyday. The deep fried fish they cook after I order so I wait about 10 mins there. I ate a few right away, Crispy outside, and seasoning was amazing! definitely worth to wait! While I was waiting, people start to line up to get lunch combo. Only $5.75 ! Good place to grab quick and cheap lunch!
