First time visit for summer tippler drink but we had lunch. Very interesting place. The food was slow coming out but well worth the wait. Very busy on a Saturday afternoon.
Love this spot! Reviews for separate visits: mezCALL me a cab after this happy hour @casamezcal has some great deals during happy hour like their classic margaritas. And if you post them on @instagram while you’re there, you get a free shot! Not sure what the blood red shot was but it was a sweet contrast to the perfectly tart marg. Plus the chicken tacos are pretty dang good! In queso you forgot… @casamezcal is the best Mexican restaurant around! I was invited for a dinner and mezcal tasting and got to try so many items from their menu I hadn’t before and each one was absolutely amazing! The staff took amazing care of us and they will amazing care of you too! Appetizers • Esquite - fesh corn, epazote aioli, tajin, cotija cheese similar to an elote but off the cob • Guac & Totopos - chips & guacamole • Queso Asado - grilled cheese, salsa verde, hoja santa, pico de gallo Entrees • Azteca Cake - layered corn tortillas, grilled chicken breast, onion, covered with Oaxacan mole, sesame seeds, avocado • Barbacoa de Borrego - puebla lamb stew with chile guajillo, with house made corn tortillas, salsas Mezcal Tasting We got to try 3 of the 300+ mezcals that they have! It was so cool and informative to learn about them. Each one was so unique in both taste and history • @mezcalcasaantigua - the first of the artisanal of the ones we tried and probably my favorite of the 3. I had a more mild taste than the others and was recommended to be used for cocktail mixing • @mezcalherodes - this brand was started by a French wine maker who moved to Mexico and fell in love with mezcal. It’s the perfect love story. This brand aged their mezcals in similar barrels to the wine which gives it the full bodied flavors • @mezcalrompecorazon - the only reposado mezcal we tried. It was fruitier than the others since this one is aged longer than the others in bourbon barrels and absorbs the sugars, which is also how both reposado tequila and mezcal get its darker color. Also this is the first and only OU certified kosher mezcal! Dessert •Churros Thank you for having & teaching us! Drop it like it’s hot cakes Because the hot cakes at @casamezcal have a surprising fruity Mexican twist! They corn hot cakes with lime zest, served with a strawberry sauce. Plus their huevos divorciados yes, divorced eggs are awesome as well - one served with mole and the other salsa verde, with rice and beans on the side. Plus we ordered some margaritas. Great brunch menu! The only thing I wish there was, was more food!
"It is what it is" is now as common as "hectic" in our parlance. Here, it tells you that you are going to get a perfectly tuned bar that specialises in mezcal and tex mex food. You won't be blown away, but you will be satisfied by very good margaritas and eats that will keep your thirst for these going. The service is friendly and knowledgeable, as you can expect most places in this part of this town.
Stopped here for drinks before a dinner reservation nearby. I wish we would’ve made reservations here instead! I loved the decor and my spicy margarita was delish.
This place was so underwhelming. Margarita was too sweet. The decor felt like I was in the Bronx, it was so dingy. I'm from the Bronx Do not believe everything you see on social media. It's so out of place in such a cool neighborhood. The food had no spice for a restaurant claiming to be Mexican. I've never had tacos so bad as their hibiscus tacos. I don't know, but at least try to welcome vegetarians with flavor instead of whatever that was. Not even the happy hour prices are worth it here. My server didn't even care to ask why I left half my food untouched. Ugh I wish I could turn back time.
Party that I attended here was so well organized and staff was very efficient and polite. Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of tacos, but these were amazing! They made them differently and wow, i got to live and learn! Cocktails were excellent, especially the ones with gin and mezcal. I've been told they have a variety of live music and I'll be back for some dancing- for sure!
Based on the other reviews and some searching on Google I perhaps had some expectations that were too high. Nice decor and good food presentation and taste. But prices still seemed a bit high based on the size of the plates and quality of service.
Like 20 mins into our meal the owner's spouse arrived with their children, sitting next to us and made the whole thing unpleasant. Thursday night dinner in the LES became a weekend brunch in Park Slope. Kids walking on the seats, almost spilling our drinks, staring at us… The spouse was also a bit of an a-hole toward the server. Great drinks, tasty food, super friendly staff otherwise.
Good Mezcal selection and a nice selection of cocktails with a Mezcal spin. I don't like that many of the cocktails cost +$1 to be made with Mezcal. Nick behind the bar is friendly and knowledgeable about mezcals. A fantastic recommendation was the Los Nahuales.
30 dollars for a flight of margaritas that tasted terrible. On the bright side they were small as well.
