Central Ohio Martial Arts is a gem right in middle of Clintonville. Master Laura Clements is an amazing instructor - able to work with kids and adults and no one loses anything. She promotes responsibility and good work ethic among her students while ensuring that no one gets hurt or has a bad experience. Her knowledge of the arts she teaches is unparalleled and she shares it freely. The facility is clean and well-equipped, the classes are more than fairly priced, and the attached store is well-stocked and very affordable.
I don’t practice here but I have checked out the dojo and seen a few practices taking place. It appears to be an excellent school. I have been doing business with the store for a few years now and the lady in the store is always friendly and helpful. They always have exactly what I am looking for and I have always purchased quality goods at a reasonable price.
We love it. Master Laura is amazing with our daughter and she loves going. I came to the school with previous martial arts experience and am enjoying my continuing education with the school.
My son is currently taking Tae Kwon Do here, and absolutely loves it. Master Laura has been nothing but wonderful. From her patience, communication with young children, and instruction is beyond amazing. We have had nothing but a great experience with everyone here. Am so glad we chose to go here when my son wanted to get into martial arts.
Our family just tried a gongkwon yusul class. Master Laura was an amazing teacher - very patient and easy to understand. She did a great job of correcting my young daughters technique and she generally has a problem with being corrected when she's wrong. The atmosphere was welcoming, and casual yet traditional. The entire family will be signing up to study with her. I will update this review of my opinions ever change. I didn't spend much time on the supply side, but what I saw looked comprehensive.
Both of our kids go here and really like the experience. We just came back from their yellow belt test and feel like we made a good decision to enroll our kids here. There is a great community feel to the place and have appreciated the patience and expertise of the instructors. Master Laura is obviously very talented, but also very approachable.
This store is right off the highway on High Street. They have a nice inventory of swords and practice equipment. The employee is very friendly & helpful. Me & my son traveled to Central Ohio Martial Arts & Supply from Dayton, Ohio. We enjoyed our time in the store talking with the lady who was working. There will be many return visits. Oh. They sell Korean trinkets :
Very large selection of martial arts gear and affordably priced. Master does a great job instructing beginners thru the highest ranks!
I have been training here since 2010. My sons have trained with me. It is a family-friendly dojang where building confidence and building friendships are encouraged. Master Laura is proficient in every martial art that she teaches. She has certifications from the United States National Tae Kwon Do Federation, the Kukkiwon in South Korea, the World Haidong Gumdo Federation, The Hapkidowon World Hapkido Headquarters, The International Gongkwon Yusul Association, as well as certifications from The American Heart Association to teach CPR. She has many Assistant Instructors, who also have certifications from South Korea and the United States, but she is ALWAYS at EVERY class to make sure everyone is receiving the proper training. She welcomes all students, including students with physical and mental disabilities. She maintains a clean school, as well as a huge store. She has events outside of class to try to bring her students together in a social setting. Because of these events, I have met and befriended students who are in the other martial arts classes that I wouldn’t have met in my classes. Joining this school has been a positive and fun experience for me and my family. Master Laura encourages her students to learn all they can. If they are interested in learning an art that is not taught at her school, she offers to help find schools that are properly certified and have instructors who are proficient in their respective arts. She does not want anyone getting hurt or being misled by other schools. She wants her students to have positive experiences in their martial arts journeys, regardless of whether they are with her or somewhere else. Repetition is a key component to learning anything. Master Laura’s classes review techniques previously studied in order to begin to move on to more difficult techniques. You need to master the basics in order to safely progress to harder techniques. One of the most important components in Master Laura’s school is the emphasis on safety. She does not have any of her students perform any acts that they are not prepared to do. She doesn’t force a student to test if they don’t feel they are ready, even if she feels they are ready. Her student’s comfort is what is important. I can’t say enough about how impressed I am with this school and the people in it. Come and see for yourself.
Went in to get a few things for my son. The women was very rude when I asked if I could return some glove's I had got him last month. I didn't think I would be able to return them but I thought I'd ask. She talked to me in a very disrespectful way. It was very surprising because everyone in the martial arts community that I've been around has been very nice and respectful. She even walked a way when I told her I needed to buy sparring gloves for my son. I've spent well over $200 and that store and needless to say I'll never spend another dime unfortunately.
