I lived in this building for a year and a half, and I have nothing but good things to say about both the building and my apartment. First of all my studio was a good sized studio and fairly priced. Whenever I experienced any problem, maintenance responded immediately if not the same day, the next day. People at the office were always kind, nice, helpful. I have had noise issues myself because it is such a central location, which has nothing to do with the building itself. Even then, they did their best to stop the noise sources when extreme cases by for example communicating with the restaurant next door for us. Even though you may think that this is an old building, it is very well maintained. My kitchen and bathroom were super clean and new. Finally, I want to say that unlike many Philly apartments, they have good sized walk in closets, at least they had in my floor plan. Overall, if this is the location you want to live in, you should seriously consider this building. I even miss the security people. Currently living in a building Lofts 640 which claims to be "luxury apartments", but it is far from being the truth. I miss Chancellor quite a bit, and the reason I moved out was because I needed a larger space than they offer.-- Photos are from the day I moved in my apartment in Chancellor
I loved living here, and if I hadn't gotten a job out of state I would still live here. My boyfriend and I lived in West Philly, and after a barrage of issues with Brick Management we decided it was time for a change. We made a list of apartments we wanted to check out, and set out one Saturday to check them out. We had high hopes for our search, only to be disapointed by bait and switch pricing. Walking around center city debating what we should do for the rest of the day we passed by The Chancellor and figured what do we have to loose. We opened the door and were greeted by Francina, she went over all the options that were available and gave us a tour. The first thing I noticed was she knew every tenants name in the building, she would spark up little conversations and wish everyone well. I also noticed that the building is very secure, and it's in a great location. After the tour My boyfriend and I decided to grab a bite to eat and discuss our options. obviously we chose the chancellor... We moved in and things were good, but then a few months in my boyfriend became sick and I had to take on basicaslly everything, in the midst of just everythingness PNC bank of course messed up a couple of the automatic payments with the rent, not what I needed I ran down to the office and went over my options with Vera and she was just amazing. I was able to resolve the issue aka paid my rent with a bank check and avoided beinging in a bad standing. The ladies in the office were all very helpful and really do thier best to help with any issues. Even when I told them we were going to have to move Francina sat down with me and went over different lease options for our departure that ended up saving us thousands of dollars. Overall we had an amazing time living there and I would highly recomend this place. It's a great location, has a great staff.
We lived in the chancellor for 9 months. Maintenance is fast and it felt safe. There's a door person at all times. Noise is the biggest issue. The weekend noise is insane, and it's definitely not a residential area, but if you're very high up, you probably won't hear it. Paying rent is easy and application process was not hard, just the common stuff of first/last/security deposit so be ready with a large sum of money up front. Rent price is fair for the area. My only other complaint which is not related to the building is the smell outside. That is one stinky street, but it looked like the city was fixing something with the gutters/sewage.
I truly enjoyed my stay here @ The Chancellor Apts on S 13th St. The staff is amazing and the location is ideal for a Senior without transportation. You can walk or get a bus to just about anywhere. Thanks to the staff for making my stay a delightful experience. B Edwards #609
I lived at the Chancellor Apartments for 2 years from 2018 to the end of 2020; a little bit into the pandemic as a student. The application process went very smoothly. The move in was a bit hectic because it’s a busy street and you are only given 2 hours to use the freight elevator but I managed. Note that once Covid began, everyone wore masks and the Complex was cleaned more regularly than it already was which was a plus for me. I had a studio on one of the middle floors. Not too close to the street but not super high either. There was a lot of noise throughout the time I lived there because I picked a unit that faced the Main Street. The club Woodys is right next door so expect it to be loud on weekends. Something I got used to after a while. I suggest choosing a unit between floor 12 and the highest floor level to avoid the noise as much as possible. I saw 2 bugs my entire time living in this place excluding any little gnats. The hallways were vacuumed regularly and the lobby was always decorated with beautiful plants and flowers. The security guard/doormen and women were always so pleasant. They always greet you and help you with any packages and mail. Paying rent was a breeze. The walls are pretty thin but what can you expect. I heard a lot of things I would have chosen not to hear lol Regardless I had respectful neighbors. Except one guy who accused me of being loud when it was a different unit but whatever, I won’t let that 5 minute misunderstanding affect my rating. Maintenance was actually pretty good. They were always on top of everything and never let a problem go unfixed for a long period of time. But it’s up to you to call of course. Maintenance replaced my toilet, loose door knob, fixed the plumbing of both sinks and closed any exposed holes to avoid any pest issues. When you live in an old building in the city, you’re usually more prone to having pests but I didn’t have a single one. Vera and Franceina were the PERFECT landlords. I remember I use to go to the office just to say hello and have conversations with them and they always gave me the best advice. They were also always on top of anything I needed complete, even with all the tenants they had. Overall great first apartment experience. Not sure if people giving bad reviews are referring to the Delaware County location but here in Center City Philadelphia, my experience was great!
I am less than a month from moving out... so my rating may change! Let's hope not! As of today I have been really happy living here. I have seen MANY apartments both in the city and the suburbs of Philly and I have to say this is the nicest apartment I have seen in my price range! The building doesn't misrepresent itself which is a nice change from what I have seen recently. I am only moving out because I want to be closer to work. I have to admit that I am a pretty easy lazy, really tenant and I haven't had any major issues with the building. I occasionally pay rent a few days late and they have been really understanding and forgiving! I also took a few months to "better myself" aka rehab during my stay at the Chancellor and my leasing agent even fed my cat one day! During a particularly rough 2 years of my life it has been great to call this place home. Not everything has been perfect but the good definitely outweighs the bad! In the interest of leaving an honest review I will mention the biggest cons: -The elevators are CONSTANTLY "being fixed". It is clear there is a major issue going on with one elevator and all of the fixes seem to be temporary. I just wish the office would admit they have an issue instead of telling tenants that it "should be fixed tomorrow." Just be upfront! I would rather commiserate than wait to be disappointed! Walking up 12+ flights is NOT fun! -During the first year and a half I lived here the water was shut off many times. It was usually announced in advance but it was always a huge inconvenience. Again, the issue was never really addressed to the tenants and it was always the "last time". Recently things have been going okay though! -The location is not ideal if you work odd hours. It is great except when you need to be up early! The major pros: -great views, hardwood floors and a cool bathroom! I LOVE my walk in closet too! -The leasing office is super helpful when you run into issues and they respond to emails and calls very quickly. -The security is amazing. The front desk attendants are always helpful and they monitor the 10+ cameras constantly. Nothing goes unnoticed which is really comforting when living in a city. They are always happy to chat and welcome you home! I have had many free therapy sessions in the lobby! Mark is by far the best of the best! -Access to parking options. Please note: DO NOT PARK AT THE LAZ PARKING JUNIPER LOT! It is horrible! The location is super convenient but the sexual harassment, erroneous fees and general mismanagement is NOT WORTH IT! All in all I would highly recommend this apartment building to anyone looking! It has been great living here and I just hope that my last month and move out are as easy and pleasant as the rest of my stay. *This is my very first review. I like Chancellor enough to write this entire novel!
Vera and Franceina were ALWAYS a pleasure to work with. Moving from a different state to Philly was a big chance and they made me feel at home. My 1 bedroom unit was spacious and lots of windows for natural light. The best part is how SAFE it is. Security cameras everywhere and doorman at all times. I always felt safe even in a big city that I wasn’t used to. Anytime I needed anything Vera and Franceina were always there to help and maintenance was SUPER efficient. Whenever I called maintenance he was there within 10-20 minutes. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants to live in the heart of center city close to everything. Don’t let the other reviews of management personnel fool you, they were so nice and helpful.
I’ve lived here for a year and honestly, I love it. The leasing office is MORE than understanding and kind, the front desk folks are ALWAYS friendly, it’s secure, the neighbors are awesome, and I have so much space for not a lot of money. Yes, it’s a little loud - I’m on the 20th floor and can hear the street - but that’s the city. And my kitchen is tiny but I chose the apartment layout that I did bc I rarely cook and I’d rather have the view that I do - City Hall and the bustling Gayborhood. You can always find things to complain about but the good is awesome and best of all, they are more than responsive here and that means its weight in gold to me.
This place is the worst, 75percent of the tenants flips, with short lease. You have a leasing Manager Bob was the most racist person there. If he could, no black would be living there. No matter if you Qualify "Steve the maintenance talk to people's like trash, you have to step to him before he thinks it's ok' his job was pass on to a most the bottom of the bucket he racist, his first week he tell a all black staff he their BOSS " tenants been complaining he come into their apartment with out knocking while they sleeping and continue to stay. He harassed the black females employee's by yelling at them. The winter time when there needed a boiler man there license to supply heat, he not there it's the doorman job to turn on heat. When ask do he request them to cut on switch to the boiler he denies he tell them so, so now you have 6 black employee lieing when asked about to their supervisor " while all this is going on you have 40 camera thur out the building. Management see what they want to see. They call on the phone when their tie or uniform not on" . It's a racist woman on the 19 floor stop 3 black men who live there, and ask them do you live here, while the doorman said nothing because he concerned about his job if he do. Management does nothing while all this is on camera. I brought it to their attention nothing was done, because it not their job to confront tenants, when it's have nothing to do with their employees. Janitor staff been caught on camera using my bathroom not washing their hands, removing food out of the refrigerator, and one going into my closet while the third person working on the 40 pound little refrigerator that needed to be replaced so it took 3 men to do this. He was fired the next day only the black employee" pay your rent and write down the day it posted because they charge you $50 dollars for late fees. I received $150 back proving this. If you do a short term lease and go back to a12 months lease check and make sure they still not taking the extra $50 out. I proved that and got back $250. I was a excellent tenant pay my rent on time minded my business , they couldn't scare or control me. I left when I was ready I stay there 4 years because I control my environment not them. So when I finally decided it's time for me to move on, I saved money living in this project build.it cheap if you strong enough for the BS. This is where you will laugh, I clean the apartment up and left behind a all purpose cleaning bottle and a bottle of water in the refrigerator they send me a final bill of $50 for leaving the apartment dirty " Now the woman in the sky watching 40 cameras is the VP of Chancellor know everything that going on, she was please to send me a email saying I owe them. Now Im out the country! Leadership start from the top she is a poor excuse for a leader. Thank you Chancellor apartments you made me even stronger. Once a person shows who they are believe them"
My boyfriend rents a unit in one of their buildings and they’re atrocious. I’ve rented from slum lords who gave tenants more respect. They took his parking spot for weeks with no explanation and then wrote a snotty email about not parking in available spots you don’t own. Because he’s a better person than I am he parked on the street. No big deal. Then they have the audacity to provide no resources to people living in their buildings to tow aunathorized vehicles taking up spots they pay for. Called me old fashioned but that’s unprofessional. It’s a shame because we love the land lord but don’t appreciate the building management.
