This was my second time coming here. The first was for dinner and we dined indoors. The ambiance was nice. I like the decor and the intricate look of the ceilings. The food was tasty. I had enchiladas which was a good portion. The drink tasted strong. The second visit was for brunch/lunch. I was surprised how packed the place was; good for indoor and outdoor dining, but the outdoor was enclosed, which I don't mind since it was cold out. I had this non-egg platter vegetarian and it was delicious. Very appealing to the eyes and taste buds. The drink I ordered was strong, but perhaps my selection wasn't to my liking although it was recommended. I would come back here.
Chavela's was amazing! From the moment we walked in the staff was super friendly and professional. We had about 8 people in our party but didn't have to wait for more than 5 minutes to get a table. The drinks were made just right I had a strawberry margarita. The food was exceptional! Definitely more of an adult dining experience though. We had 2 girls 10 years old with us and they didn't seem too excited about anything on the menu. We ended up getting them french toast and quesadillas which they did enjoy. The inside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. Would def go back again.
Food was amazing. The wait time was about 30-40 mins we did not have reservations. It was pretty busy on a Saturday around 630pm. They have outdoor seating. My group sat inside. We order the corn & guacamole for appetizers. Both were absolutely delicious. For the main We ordered the Don Plato which comes with chicken and steak and my husband got the short ribs with mole sauce. Both did not disappoint. Definitely will be coming back for the excellent service and food. Drinks were also very good. I ordered the strawberry margarita.
If you live in Brooklyn you don’t need to go too far for some good Mexican food. Chavela’s is located in crown heights and easily accessible by bus or train. It has become on of my go to places when I need a good meal. There is happy hour from 4-7 Monday through Thursday and prices of the the food are pretty reasonable. Depending on the day it can get pretty crowded by the wait is never unbearable. I always start off with the $4 tacos. I tried the Bistec tacos and they were so good, I love that the tortillas were doubled because sometimes the filling of the tacos can make the tortilla soggy. Drinks are pretty good BUT the height of my meal was the Mole! The give you so much food for only $17. The mole was flavorful, they also include rice and bean as a side and tortillas just in case you want to use that to create mole tacos instead. I will def be coming back and you should check them out next time you’re in crown heights.
This place is really cool and the staff is friendly but I had to give 2 stars because of what I found in my plate: the egg shell. I mean…really?! I loved the strong margarita and the plate was great overall…but something like that I’ve never seen in a restaurant.
D E L I C I O U S! We all know that is very hard to find good Mexican food outside Mexico and specially in NYC, BUT Chavela’s were able to give us a real Mexican experience. Everything was on point! Chips and salsa, enchiladas and churros at the end were absolutely fantastic. Definitely recommend!!
really liked this spot, it seems like a local institution and it doesn't fall short. the guac wasn't over seasoned which can be the case in a lot of places, the mole tasted a bit close to burned but i thought it made a great taco with the tortillas it was served with given the bones were easily pulled of the bone. the shrimp dish was solid as well. i also got pretty messed up from just one sangria/ marg mix. will def return here regularly
I only comment when I am extremely pleased with a place. This place came highly recommended and did not disappoint. I had guacamole as a starter, chicken flautas as my main course, and the flan as dessert. I also enjoyed 2 delicious margaritas on ice. Everthing I had was absolutely delicious. The ambience is very lively, so I enjoyed that as well. The staff was top notch as well, very attentive and did not miss a beat. I look forward to going back!
This is my second time going here with a close friend. The atmosphere is cozy and this place attracts a crowd, so do try to come a bit before 5. I love the decor, which consisted of bright colors and decor true to the Mexican heritage that extended to the bathroom. This place is extremely creative on drinks with a specialized Menu. Do keep in mind, they do not create regular cocktails than what is on the Menu. However, their specialized drinks are worth a try. They have great Margaritas Their Guacamole was so fresh served in a traditional clay pot with unique round tortilla chips. Their enpasnadas and steak was awesome and my friend had salmon with capers and olives. The food was well seasoned and flavorful. The staff was amazingly friendly despite being busy. This place is definitely a go to for great Mexican food.
Amazing tastes and atmosphere! So well decorated inside and music matches well. The taco platter was really good but I recommend to get extra tacos when ordering:Food: 5/5
