I've only been once so far but it really did have this noticeably low key vibe about it and drinks were pretty cheap. I wouldn't go here to party hard but I'd definitely come here to chill for a while.
Hands down the best "true" dive in midtown. Recently updated banquette, carpet, and bar stools, but they've retrained everything that's great about this old school dive. Hip, eclectic crowd. Friendly staff that makes you feel happy you walked in. Cheap drinks. You can't go wrong.
Great dive bar, bartender was super good people, and we met some fun people there too. Cheap beer!
good drinks. bartender was a total beefcake!
This place is awesome! Bar tender knows what I get each time and I always have a good time. Best dive bar!!
The owner Matt is a boss. He’s wonderful. The bartenders and the customers were rude. Anybody who has a different view or makes a mistake is forsaken. Doesn’t matter how nice you are, how big of a tip, they’re rude. We all are trying to love and be loved. Not what I expected from this bar.
I have never met or seen a more laid back bartender. He handled a huge crowd alone making notes for tabs on post its! He was amazing. There are dart boards everywhere so make sure you watch where you walk. Lots of options for seating even though the place is pretty small. Had a great time.
I was jokingly going to leave a one star because "i had a bad experience" but i didnt, and i dont want to leave a one star just because. Good bar.
This is secretly one of the best bars in midtown; I'm almost afraid to review it out of fear it will stop being a secret and get overcrowded! My favorite quality is how adorable the drinks are - probably the most affordable in this part of town. I've never seen more than one bartender working at a time though so be prepared to wait for your drink. The bar also features a small but cozy back patio good for smokers, darts, and occasionally a dj. On the best nights, you can even find homemade chili in a crockpot at the front of the bar.
Chez Charlie is not a modern bar by any means. When you walk in you sort of feel like you've entered a time vortex stuck in the 90s which isn't always a bad thing. Do I go there for comfortable seating or cleanliness? No. I go there to play darts and to feel like it's 1995 again. Do I go there to have plenty of personal space and have a variety of options for drinks? No. I go there to be elbow to elbow on even slightly busy nights and will stick with some sour well the whole evening. Chez Charlie is not for everyone but it's still special in its own right.
