Delicious, creative, full of flavor, and picture perfect presentation. Five stars! The staff was so accommodating for a last minute larger table and were fun to talk to and we three had a lovely evening. The clean plates speak for themselves. We love delicious food and this was beyond delicious! We will make the trip back from NYC to visit our friends at Chickadee. They are also kid friendly offering a tasty menu for children without sacrificing flavor. Our daughter had the pasta and it was chef’s kiss good! The strawberry dessert reminded me of the strawberry short cake bars from childhood but a billion times better and bursting with flavor. I can’t say enough good stuff about this place. Thank you! Thank you!
Really a fantastic spot for dinner in Boston. Very nice, modern and comfy setting in the Design Center. Staff was excellent and attentive, drinks were well made - and the food is best in class. We stuck with four small plates for two people - and we’re very pleased! Will be back!
Wow! The food was delicious, creative, hearty, and elegantly presented. Everything was great, but the squid ink fusilli was the clear standout: each bite contained a different combination of exciting and rich flavors. The service was also impeccable. The waitstaff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and the kitchen made several on-the-fly adjustments to various dishes to accommodate my girlfriend's allergy we didn't even need to ask. We were blown away by the entire experience and can't wait to return!
Delicious food met with even better service! We sat at the bar top and the bartender was very knowledgeable and attentive. He recommended this drink pictured, but cannot remember the name! and it was unlike anything I’ve had in a good way! We tried the dips/spreads with fresh pita, chickpea panisse fries, and crispy kale salad. Everything was so tasty and I can’t wait to come back and try more.
My second visit after a year. We had some pleasant surprises and disappointments. They expanded the menu now includes four entrees. We had the slow roasted duck, which was smokey and tender. It was significantly better than the fried chicken that we tried the first time. The appetizers, small plates, and pasta dishes were excellent. The squid ink fusili was a bit too salty. The big disappointment was the dessert menu. The strawberry tart was fine, except it tasted like something you could buy from whole foods, for half the price. The baked alaska that we tried the first time looked and tasted like an environmental disaster. No flames, and molted. Service was okay. Would not return unless they hire a new pastry chef.
The location makes you wonder if you’re in the right spot and upon entering we sat at the bar and watched the place fill up. Attentive staff, knowledgeable and friendly! I don’t drink but the staff was busy making many beautiful looking unique cocktails! Started with the pita, tzatziki, bean and red pepper hummus! Great flavor and delicious! Ordered the steak tartare with the truffle mousse on top- steak was finely chopped and delicate / very flavorful, with a hint of truffles. Main dish was lobster campanelle. The pasta is made with lobster and the chili gave the dish a slight spice. I would describe the flavor as being light - squid ink pasta was delicate, not too salty with a slight crunch from the olive bread crumb. I’d describe the food, service and flavor as definitely solid - though it left me wanting just a bit more wow factor of flavor. Overall a great experience. 4.5 stars if I could
Chickadee might be the best restaurant I’ve been to in the Greater Boston area so far. I’ve wanted to visit this restaurant for a while and finally pulled the trigger this past weekend. We made a reservation a week in advance, and the whole experience was mind-blowing. We started off with a bowl of plum gazpacho. Served in a form of a cold soup, the gazpacho was great for increasing our appetite. The subsequent two appetizers were also fabulous. The hen of the woods mushroom had a meaty texture and a slightly smoky flavor that we loved. The soft heirloom tomatoes on a tart was also a great concept, and the light scent of the summer truffle was a great pairing with the little gem lettuce on the side. While the main dishes weren’t as creative as the appetizers, they certainly had impeccable flavor profiles. Squid ink fusili was the clear standout as the olive bread crumbs really amplified the subtle umami squid ink flavors. Since the fusili was a bit salty, the green garlic bigoli was a nice choice to have as well. The crispy fried chicken was probably the most “normal” dish of our meal, but we still enjoyed every bite of it despite being full at the time. On paper, this place could simply be classified as a typical New American restaurant with a slight Mediterranean influence. However, the creativity and the combination of unique ingredients certainly make experience here extraordinary. I will definitely return to try more of their menus.
They did a really good job of balancing texture in every dish. The tuna crudo and steak were amazing. The flavors were rich and balanced. The crema on the steak was incredible. And both the meat were fresh. The pork in the salad had a slightly strong taste. The fried chicken was okay. Not really impressive. They certainly had good vibe. Service was fantastic. Good place to celebrate or date.
We've been meaning to try this place for a while, and finally made the trek thanks to the holiday market nearby. Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience. The food we had was a bit on the heavy side, but that could have been due to our menu choices. We also ordered a lot -- 7 dishes and one dessert for 2 people they recommend 4. Smoked sea trout dip $16 - We never would have ordered this if it weren't for a raving review about it, and I'm glad we did! Hands down the best thing we ordered. We were surprised that there were plenty of fat chunks of trout underneath the foamy creamy sauce. The trout was so smoky and tender and paired perfectly with the airy sauce. I'm not sure that I would call it a "dip" the chunks of fish were so big they broke the chips when I tried to scoop it up, but it's certainly my favorite iteration of this dish I've ever had. Spicy yellowfin tuna tartare $16 - This was a very delicately constructed dish that had a lot going on. The primary flavor we got was tomato, and there was a decent amount of pureed tuna. It definitely put a twist on many of the typical elements of tuna tartare, but I'm not sure that I prefer it to the traditional version. Chickpea panisse fries $14 - This was a very interesting dish -- the contrast between the crispy outside and the super smooth, almost gooey inside was very surprising. This felt a bit too heavy to me, and the aioli was more mayo than calabrian chili. It just wasn't for me. Crispy hen of the woods $18 - This was a very delicate bunch of crispy, deeply mushroom-flavored mushrooms with some sort of whipped potatoey puree. I thought the mushrooms were very nicely cooked, but I think it could have used some balancing of flavors -- maybe some acid or stronger savoriness/spice. Even though the puree was airy, it was still pretty creamy and could have had more balance. Jonah crab toast $22 - There was a lot of crab meat on the toast, but honestly it just tasted like crab and toast with a bit of spice, and the other flavors were lost. The toast was also a bit burnt. Smoked sea scallops $22 - This was quite good. It had a similar flavor profile to the smoked trout dip due to the smokiness and cream. The scallops were tender and the trout roe was a nice touch. Again, I think this could have done with some acid or some green vegetables. Crispy fried chicken $44 - We definitely were not expecting this much food -- it's half a chicken, 4 cheddar biscuits, a warm farro salad, and 2 sauces. We probably could have filled ourselves up on just this and one or two appetizers. The outside was very crunchy but slightly burnt/cooked a bit further than I would have preferred. The chicken itself is quite juicy, including the breast. Overall I wouldn't say it's the best fried chicken ever, but it was solid and did the chicken meat justice. The cheddar biscuits were normal. I wasn't a big fan of the sauces it came with because they were pretty rich and similar to the sauce that came with the chickpea fries. I also wish the warm farro salad was a cold salad with some acid and sweetness and freshness green apples and pomegranate?. Baked alaska $16 - This was a very pretty dessert. I liked the raspberry sorbet inside, but I thought there was too much meringue relative to the sorbet. I also didn't think the flavors really worked together -- the pistachio taste was overwhelming and the persimmon and pomegranate got lost. I think this could have been a good dessert, but the proportions of ingredients were off. Mocktail $8 - Feeling weighed down by all the food, we ordered a mocktail midway through our meal. We got a "juicy tropical" one which was very tasty, like grapefruit juice with slight floral tones. It's half the price of a cocktail, so I would definitely rather get 2 mocktails than a cocktail if I returned. Overall the restaurant had great ambience and service. There were definitely a lot of cool transformations of ingredients. There were just a lot of rich foods on the menu that weren't balanced out with any acidity or sweetness
We loved this place! The food we ordered was absolutely delicious. Squid ink pasta is my favorite! Basbousa dessert was too sweet and overwhelming. We will def come back!
