Chopping requires an up and down motion and that is a perfect description for an experience at Chopper's Sports Bar, service was slow, but when the server came around, she attentive and quick, great bar food with plenty of selection to satisfy everyone in your party, entire menu is overpriced but hard to tell if it's because they are so proud of their offerings or just the victims of supply chain and inflation issues, food is hot, drinks cold, and plenty of seating for the big games, would come back if in town again but be prepared for a sizeable bill.
Food was good, TVs were big and nice quality. Had great music playing. Our server seemed to not know the menu very well and made me feel like I was asking for extra things when the menu said they were included. She also didn't know if they had Miller lite and she would have to check, which seems to me like a basic menu item for a sports bar. But it was a cool sports bar with wide variety menu.
The bartender asked me once what I would like. I didn't quickly make a decision, and was never asked again. I sat and waited as she made orders for people who walked in after me, then made orders for other patrons, closed a tab, took orders from the waitress. I wasn't approached again. Besides, they didn't have much of a variety of brews, mainly commercial beers. So, I left. The place didn't feel comfortable.
I've had yet to have a positive eating or drinking experience here in over a dozen visits with a group. I find the food and drinks to be overpriced, food quality mediocre to bad and service to be greatly lacking. On my 1st visit I orded a salad which was inedible. On my last visit I waited 30 minutes for a beer and server never took my food order in the back room. Service was still quite slow that evening even after some of us sat at the bar. The bartender forgot my food order; had to reorder and what was supposed to be mild salsa was scorching hot.
The staff is friendly, but seemingly overworked. Service is often slow because the servers are taking too many tables. I have received rotten broccoli, and brown celery in my last few hummus plates, and the last few baskets of fries that I ordered were cold and chewey. I used to work for this restaurant group, and the Tavern restaurants are all about pumping out volume, never about quality. I would avoid it , but it is the only walking distance place to get beer and see blacked out sports games. It would be great if they would cut out the rotten vegetables, . It would also help if the servers didn't struggle with 10 tables each. I am a 35 year restaurant veteran, with 20 years front of house experience and I would tell people to expect mediocrity at best.
Good drinks, a decent beer selection, and tasty food. I especially like the wings. Unfortunately, the Game Day audio volume was WAY TOO LOUD. Like Deafening. My ears are still ringing.
Well, inflation has definitely arrived here - $36 for 2 microbrews and a sandwich with a side! That aside, the Reuben is divine. Consistently. House made beef and slaw. I don't even like sports, I just like the Reuben that much Also, don't give out straws unless people ask! I am seeing 3 sitting on the bar unopened, and they will prob end up in the trash. Unused, unrecyclable
My local hang. If you're looking for a chill spot slightly off the beaten path with a solid menu, great waitstaff, and awesome sports vibe... Chopper's is for you. Check out happy hour for the best deals! Spicy Philly Eggrolls are a must, great wings, huge salads.
I am not a sports bar kind of guy, but I do like hamburgers and fries. A good friend therefore recommended Choppers, and so one afternoon my wife and I stopped in. This was before the evening rush started, and the large dining room area was mostly empty. It was overly warm - perhaps the ac was on the fritz? I was amazed at all the large televisions - there were more TVs, and much bigger TVs, than I'd ever seen in a restaurant before. Our server was friendly, and joked about Choppers having a friendly competition with the Cherry Cricket. But now we come to what counts: the burgers. They were large, larger than I expected - hmm, kind of like the TVs! - and very good. Better than I expected! The fries were a bit average. The ketchup and mustard bottles at our table were nearly empty, requiring us to steal condiments from the next table. But the burgers, those very large burgers, mostly made up for these minor inconveniences. My friend tells me the other sandwiches there are also quite good.
Overpriced bar food. $15 for a chicken sandwich. Nothing else included. If you want fries will be additional $4.00. Never told it was extra. Won’t go back…. Service was sub par.
