Pre game oysters and beer before dinner at our next venue and this was the perfect place on a Friday night. Kind of weird, in a nice Brooklyn way, with skeletons seated nearby, just a relaxing, unpretentious "bar bistro-ish" feel. Oysters were good, good beer selection, good service. Didn't see any hipsters here tonight, cool. Parking: Street parking free after 7
Food was excellent. Loved all the dishes we ordered especially the grilled octopus and mushroom risotto. Pork chop was a little dry but it still tasted really good. My friend and I had a great experience here. Definitely coming back again soon!
I had a very disappointing experience with Citroen on Monday night. I ordered their steak and asked for it to be medium well, but instead it came rare. This was a takeout order, so I thought I would leave it be, but the next day I felt really sick from the small amount I did have, so I decided to call the restaurant. The person who answered took down my information and then let me know they would call me back later that night. When I didn’t receive any response, I decided to email them the next day and in response they were extremely defensive and adamant that they prepared the steak correctly. I am really disappointed that they never tried to remedy the situation or even offer to refund the amount that I paid. They were rude in their email response back to me, and from what it seems from other google complaints, this is a common issue for the restaurant. I won’t be returning and if you are looking for a good restaurant in this area, I suggest you don’t try this one out either.
My boyfriend and I came here after stumbling across it one day on a walk, and I’m so glad we did. Very nice yet casual French restaurant. Our cocktails were 10/10. I had a spicy margarita and he had a dirty gin martini which came in a cute sidecar. To eat we started off with a few $1 oysters on happy hour, the artichoke pictured and French onion soup also pictured. All were great but the soup was the best I’ve had out of French onion soups. For our mains, we had the coq au vin and Pat Lafrieda burger. The burger was incredible and the chicken was so juicy and tender. We finished off with a pumpkin spice latte. We will definitely be back!!
Had a delicious brunch at Citroën today. The staff offered a wonderful service. We started with the east coast oysters which were great. We also ordered the smoked salmon eggs Benedict and the steak & eggs. The steak was cooked perfectly to my partners liking. The home fries are a must! Will definitely be back to try their dinner and dessert.
Update: Following my initial review, I experienced an unwarranted series of discourteous emails from the establishment's owner. In light of this unexpected backlash to my constructive feedback, I feel compelled to amend my rating to a mere one star as a cautionary signal for others who might share similar critiques. With a culinary history that includes dining at numerous Michelin-starred establishments, including esteemed locations such as Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, and Daniel, I am well-versed in the high standards set by the Michelin Guide. While these mentioned venues represent the apex of fine dining, I firmly believe that any establishment vying for recognition within the Michelin system should, at the very least, adhere to the fundamental expectations of a one-star Michelin restaurant. My recent interactions, coupled with my initial experiences at this venue, have led me to conclude that it currently falls short of even a single Michelin star's requirements. I urge potential diners to approach with caution when considering this establishment. Original review: I appreciated the flexibility in adjusting my reservation time, but there were several concerns. Despite a seemingly spacious and uncrowded restaurant, we were seated sandwiched between two couples. Perhaps other seats were reserved, yet it seemed we could've been placed somewhere more suitable. A bigger issue was with our first appetizer—the oysters. Every oyster contained fragments of shell, which considerably hampered our initial dining experience. We found ourselves either spitting out shell pieces or unintentionally crunching on them. Moreover, I noticed a lack of attentiveness in service standards expected from a Michelin-rated establishment. We weren't offered fresh cutlery or plates between courses, and our drinks, particularly the sparkling water, weren't refreshed. Even though we mentioned being in a bit of a hurry, the service felt sluggish and inattentive. I left a three-star review based on my understanding that this was a Michelin-rated restaurant. Otherwise, the food was commendable and would merit four stars on a regular scale. Let me know if you require further elaboration.
Only manager was nice, not another waiter. At that night the place looked haunted like the decorations. Only few customers but service from the waiter was trashy and unprofessional. I was so disappointed. Maybe this is the reason why this place is empty. update* after response from the owner. There were 2 people working at that night. The lady bartender was nice and we didn't have any problem with her but the guy who walk around wasn't nice to us. My friend was so upset and almost going to complain with the guy. Luckily, I stopped her and took her out of the place. Obviously, the place wasn't busy. She called the waiter and he was ignoring her and he wasn't happy to seat us at the beginning. Please explain.
I was very impressed by the onion soup here. Broth has deep onion flavors but not salty. Cheese on top was not overdone, so the soup was not too heavy. Coq au vin was fantastic. Also very cozy vibes with very pleasant lighting and music. Drinks were good especially at happy hour prices.Food: 5/5
Citroen is a regular joint for me and my friend. We love this restaurant. And we pretty much order the same thing each time; either a Manhattan or a Rusty Nail and specify less sweet and we get what we want. Oysters are plump and delicious and our favorite is the foie gras mousse which we spread on bread. We never tire of it. It's such a relaxing atmosphere and kind of fun. Not your typical French bistro but we love sharing it with their unusual decor. I must try their mussels because when they brought that to another table, I caught a whiff of the sauce. Omigosh. It was divine. This is our go to place when we just want to have good drinks, food and chill.
My Fiance and I have lived across the street from Citroen for 2 years, and consider ourselves lucky to know Dawn and her staff. They are like family to us, and we've celebrated seminal life moments with them at Citroen. We hosted our engagement party there, and regularly come in to sit and the bar, play cards, and enjoy some of the best food in Brooklyn. Dawn's cocktails are incredible and her chefs consistently put out delicious and well presented dishes. We love this place! Everyone should stop by! BTW - I think their omelette is the best in NY.
