Gem? I think so. Food was very good. Atmosphere was very nice. Quaint location. We went to celebrate our anniversary and it was super nice. I think it was a little too loud, but still a location to come back to many more times!!

I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of the staff and the timeliness of the service. More so, the food was excellent. There was no need to season the food. The local and seasonal options are appreciated. Finally, the plating was beautiful.

Came here for birthday dinner, had valet parking, we had a reservation and were promptly seated, and food was so flavorful and above expectation! Every dish! From wine selection to appetizer to main meal!

The food here was very good. I had 3 different types of shrimp but I did thank the shrimp could have been cleaned a little better in the shrimp cocktail. The fried shrimp with the chili aioli was the best out of the three and I had shrimp and grits and the cocktail shrimp as well. The service was good but it did seem like our server was getting frustrated but I dont know what for. I would go back for the fried shrimp.

My family has dined many times at this restaurant and always had a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, we arrived last night and there were 6 empty seats at the bar which we requested to be seated. We were informed that the bar seats were reserved. I asked if I were able to make reservations for the bar just like you are for the dining room, the high top tables or outside. I was informed that bar reservations were only available by contacting the bartender on duty. We reluctantly sat at the high top tables and had our meal. When we finished our meal and was departing the restaurant there had not been other persons take the open seats at the bar, they remained empty. Is Coastal Grill saving seats for exclusive guest at the bar? Did my husband and I not qualify as "exclusive" and therefore were denied a seat? We will taking our dining dollars to other establishments that appreciate our business.

This is the grilled salmon with potatoes and acorn squash. One of the best salmon dishes I’ve tried. It is layered with tarragon butter, mushrooms, capers and tomatoes. The acorn squash sweetened with sugar and butter compliments the fish that was perfectly cooked. We tried the bixbie shrimp with chipotle aioli, calamari and the homemade mozzarella tomato basil dishes. The appetizers were delicious. The restaurant interior was welcoming and had a comfortable vibe throughout the night. No wonder this is a fave of many. Looking forward to another evening out at Coastal Grill.

Extremely good seafood in an atmosphere that could use some work drop ceiling, older aesthetics. The service is truly amazing and the dishes are genuinely creative. It was very much a surprise how delicious everything was. If you go, expect an older clientele. One other thing to highlight is the drinks, especially the whiskey based ones. They're very, very good.

Coastal Grill is a must go to restaurant for those who want to have a great meal with great service and great atmosphere ! It's located in Virginia Beach on Great Neck Rd, between Shore Drive and First Colonial Rd . Not only were there several seafood options but you could also choose from lamb , duck , beef or vegetarian dishes . Everyone opted for seafood and we are all very pleased ! I had the fried oysters and they were cooked to perfection . Two others had the grouper and another had the salmon . Each dish came with a side dish of half a butternut squash baked with a brown sugar butter that tasted more like a dessert and broiled potatoes. Each were delicious ! Along with the valet parking and the wonderful atmosphere , you really must give this place a try ! Reservations are recommended !

It was good but not great: My expectations were met, but not exceeded. I felt a little noisy. I wanted a healthy meal, yet my salmon was too buttery, and sugar added to the squash . It was my wife's birthday and she liked the shrimp dish. Parking: Valet services were great!
