I would have given it 2 stars because the waiter was nice. But really, as someone who LOVES FOOD- this is not it. If you’re looking for flavor, for variety, this is not the place you want to be. The chicken in the gumbo was good by itself. The alligator bites were okay. The drinks were not my cup to tea. Granted I’m only giving it one star based off of my opinion. It was an elegant place. But for the price you pay, I feel like there should be more flavor and just better food. Extremely disappointed.
The server was knowledgeable of the menu. Suggestions for the cocktail and appetizer were great. I love the chili sauce on the grilled oyster. It is perfect to dip the bread. The entrees were perfectly cooked. The beef I ordered was so tender that it melts in your mouth. The price is on the cozy side.
12/16/2022. Service was constant and very attentive. We enjoyed the fried shrimp. The chicken liver mousse was just ok. The famous rabbit + dumplings was hearty, need more meat though. We thought the complimentary bread rolls were the best. They arrived warm, light on the inside, crispy on the outside. For dessert, we had the pineapple upside down cake which was decent. The drinks were strong. Prices were very reasonable.
An amazing restaurant a little off the main NOLA tourist traps still a bit pricey though. Great atmosphere, service, drinks including nice beer selection and absolutely fabulous food. I had the best gumbo of my life and fantastic gator bites. The rabbit with dumplings was also great, just a little killed with too much of black pepper. Now it breaks my heart to remove the one star, but the three tiny slices of the head cheese for 14 bucks were just ridiculous. Make it an appetizer for half price and still add at least one slice..
This is a great place. Great environment great back ground music. The staff is amazing. Every worker came by to make sure we were good. So for the food AMAZING!!!. The fish was good and the bacon and pork pie was a great tasty app. Now for the meal that pork sholder from the first bite your mouth feels like it won the lottery. This is just a great night at this place.
Our group was visiting New Orleans from out of town and hadn't planned far enough in advance to get reservations at Cochon. But we easily found seats at the bar, which was the best spot! We had a great time interacting with the bartenders, Mikey, Aaron, and Jason, and appreciated their suggestions. We ordered the half pig head, which was a memorable experience and one of the most delicious culinary adventures we've ever had! We had a bunch of meat leftover and they went above and beyond to wrap it up for us to take the pig head home! Those bartenders are a huge asset to this place. We had a great meal, but an especially great experience. It will have been one of our best memories of our weekend in New Orleans. In our group we had a person who is eating keto and another person who eats gluten-free and Cochon is a great fit for both of those diets. Dietary restrictions: This would not be a good spot for vegans, but it can accommodate other diets, like dairy-free, gluten-free, and keto.
We had a reservation for a group of ten people on a Saturday night. The restaurant is deceptively large and has a back room for bigger parties. Everyone had elbow room and the tables were far enough apart that no one was hitting the back of their chairs with the next table over. The food was AMAZING! We had 5 out 9 of the appetizers, we had the red fish, the rabbit and dumplings, we had some great wine, and we had all of the deserts. Great service too
We visited this place for lunch. Usually, This place is pretty much occupied and need reservation. Parking: Street Parking or paid parking lot beside the restaurant. Food: Ordered fried alligator with chili garlic, rabbit dumplings, fried catfish with grits, greens, cured pork & chili sauce & wood fired gulf fish “fisherman’s style”. Everything is perfectly cooked and dumplings was delicious. Service is fast paced and received the food in good temperature. Drinks: They have different options in wines, mixes. Dessert: Ordered Apple cider donut, pineapple upside down cake both items are yummy. No comments for food. Seating: Large amount of seating area inside and patio at roadside. Recommend this for anyone who is visiting NOLA.
One of the first places we tried during our visit to New Orleans, and it raised the bar for all places to follow. We started with the Wood Fired oysters with chili and garlic butter--Amazing!! They are now officially my favorite dish. We were served hot rolls with a delicious salted butter on the side. We had cucumber salad and pan fried catfish, all excellent flavor. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal there and have been dreaming of returning ever since.
We were lucky to be able to make a reservation the day before since we have been told how popular this place is. Great service, I was celebrating a special occasion with my husband and they offered us 2 complimentary welcome drinks without even asking. Food is OK, would definitely recommend the oysters.
