Community Book Center

An institution in the New Orleans Black community for almost 40 years. This is the best place in the city to find self-published books my Black writers and a one stop shop for fabric, art, clothing and souvenirs created by local Black artisans. The community events they hold are a great way to get connected with the Black community in New Orleans and the elders who run the place, Mama Vera and Mama Jennifer, are fonts of community knowledge and no nonsense wisdom.

Community Book Center is one of the few remaining physical African American book stores and is a staple for our community! Vera and Mamma Jen provide more than books and gifts, they provide a place for all to come together, a seat at the elders table, and an opportunity to share our talents.
