You can call 100 times or as much as you want, they don’t take the call even if you call as soon as they open. Is the phone number just decoration? They have 2 numbers and none of them will be answered. Externally poor representative, I suggest you call the office in other state to get your general questions answered.
I just want to know the price to renew the passport. It seems they intentionally left it out on the website why?. So I called at least 20 times for the last 2 weeks and no one picked up the phone. Got lucky today: a very rude representative picked up and didn't even let me finish my question. He said just check the website and hung up. I called the 3rd time and he forwarded me to voice mail. Didn't expect this kind of behavior from a country's consulate.
Submitted all the documents online. More than a week went by and nobody called like they said they would. No fees posted on the website. What is the point to offer overnight mail service when you don’t respond the next day? Then, I realized they only work 3 days/week. Called numerous times, nobody picked up.
I just renewed my passport. The whole process took me 7 days since the time I submitted my application to the time I received my new passport. A consulate representative called me 30 minutes after I submitted my application online they called me twice, I did not pick up at their first call. I sent my old passport and a check on Saturday and I received my new one on the following Tuesday. I am very impressed with their quick and responsive service.
Horrible service.. at least with my experience. First off, the lady bluntly said to my face.. SHE LOST MY PASSPORTS all 6 claimed she don’t remember me and basically shrugged “oh well” She wanted the receipts from when I first went there to submit my applications for the visa, which I paid $640! She did give me a receipt BUT never mentioned anything about bringing it back to get my passports/visas. Either way, they were VERY unprofessional by saying “I don’t know, we don’t have your passports or any record in our system.... we lost your passports” what kind of consulate does this?!!! After being VERY patient and trying to stay calm... telling her I was there 5 days ago for the application and SHE helped me filling out the forms.... she still manage to deny deny deny and say it’s not the consulate fault?! Don’t make any sense!! After being there for 2 hours!!!!! They finally found my passports!! And get this... SHE NEVER APOLOGIZE or anything. Acted like it wasn’t their fault. Just UNBELIEVABLE. I was absolutely furious. At least own up to your fault. Why would someone show up to the consulate to pick up visas they never applied for? Especially 6 visas and passports I submitted! Just unbelievable. I’m very disappointed, considering there’s so many good reviews. This was a HUGE mistake by the consulate, please own up to your wrong doing and crappy service. If I could give them negative stars I would OH on top of that, I have to stay an extra HOUR there for them to expedite one of my friends visa that I also applied for but they never did!! They only gave me back 5 visas when I applied for a total of 6. I think I was being extremely patient, other people would’ve gone off.
They ruin my passport by dropping water on it to charge me $150 instead of $70 for passport renewal. How shameless they are, I have enough evidence to prove they did it, USPS agreed to support me because they said its not their fault, the only thing they did is to deliver it to me safely. In addition, they never reply your emails, they will read and consider, when they want more they will call you so that you will not have any printable evidence.
I read some bad reviews and I was weary. But everything turned out okay for me. I just needed a one month single entry visa for Vietnam. I brought in all the required documents and paid $80 in cash in person. I was issued a receipt make sure you have this and bring it back, would advise to make a copy for your own record as they took this back when they give me my visa I asked them when to come back and pick up the visa and they told me 3 business days.
Consulate of Vietnam here in New York has been known for their filthy effort to collect extra money when they process paperwork. They don’t put up a price list on their website like they supposed to. And when people call in to ask for price they either don’t answer the phone or raise the price triple. If you don’t believe me simply give them a call. Renewing Vietnamese passport is only $70, they will make you pay $170. Visa exemption valid for 5 year is $10 and they will charge you around $70. When you argue about the price and only pay the correct fee, they black out one eye of your picture in your passport. Imagine you don’t pay attention and get to the airport with that passport.. how bad it’s gonna be when you’re in a foreign country and your only type of identity is not valid. This is an extremely serious problem caused by hatred from idiots who put all their brainless minds for money not for the benefit of the Vietnamese people. They do not serve the Vietnamese people, they are making money for their own good. Whoever find this review relevant please only pays the correct fees, your money is hard earned do not waste it this way.
For US passport holder the service is easy and simple for other passport holders like myself depending on the agreement that Vietnam has with your country you will be required to provide additional information. I have no problem with booking a hotel and flights and providing the details but it would be nice to know before getting to the consulate that you must have a confirm flight and confirm hotel reservation and wouldn't beable to get your visa same day...what if i flew in for the day to get this visa? Lucky I had my flights booked ,had to book a hotel on the spot. The lady at the desk was helpful and let me print what they needed but it would be nice to state these things on their website to prevent delay. Also I couldn't get my passport same day because I'm not American , the website states "For all regular tourism, business and personal visits, upon requested, applications can be processed instantly and the visa can be issued on the same day of receipt.". The website needs to be a little more accurate with their details.
Not too bad. You need to make appointment before come to see them. The counsellor is nice and helpful.
