this might be the worst, most crowded, and most overpriced location of any gym in NYC. this Crunch was already overcrowded to begin with. and then, recently, they closed down another location only a few block away, and almost all of the regular members there came here. did they expand the gym? no; they stupidly reconfigured space in a way that removed weight room space and equipment, and somehow replaced some of that equipment with worse and older versions. did they extend hours? no; hours remain what they were pre-pandemic. did they try and get members to go to other locations? no; they keep running specials to get even more people to come to this location. the result. any time around peak hours, you can likely expect to see, literally, every single machine occupied, with people waiting to use some of the more popular machines. the members complain about it. the trainers hate it. but this location of crunch seems to keep trying to see what they can get away with. further, they call themselves a “signature” location - meaning that it’s at a higher price point than other Crunches - but they have no signature amenities. no steam room. no sauna. and not nearly enough classes or space for them. you genuinely would have a better experience at a Planet Fitness or Blink, which are quite literally a fraction of the cost.
SO FIRST OFF THIS CRUNCH WAS SUPER DOPE, I MET 2 TRAINERS THERE INCREDIBLY NICE, LEANDRO AND THE ONE OTHER GENTLEMAN, THE GYM WAS BIG MORE THEN ENOUGH SPACE TO PROVIDE YOU WHAT YOU NEED , THEY HAVE FITNESS CLASSES THERE AS WELL , THIS WAS A SIGNATURE GYM FOR CRUNCH A NEW REMODELED NEW LOCATION, THAT MOVED FROM 23RD STREET AND 7TH AVE, TO 19TH AN 7TH AVE IF IM NOT MISTAKEN, .... ANYWAY DEFINITELY GO DO A ONE DAY FREE TRIAL SEE IF THIS GYM IS THE ONE FOR YOU , OOH YEAH AND THEY HAVE A BAT CAVE WHERE YOU CAN DO LEGS IN A SECRET LAIR INSIDE, DONT BELIEVE ME, SEE IF YOU CAN FIND THE SQUAT RACK AND LEG PRESS MACHINE , WHEN YOU DECIDE TO GIVE UP AND ASK WHERE IS THE LEG MACHINE AREA, SEE IF YOU DONT FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN BRUCE WAYNE BATCAVE
I was trying out this club and the Operations Manager literally started talking to me in the middle of doing my HIIT workout. The staffs here are just outrageously rude! Apparently, They have a rule of no moving the rower which i was not informed and no signs anywhere on the wall and I said i'd return it after. Staff here need to be trained for self awarenesstry doing a HIIT workout and have another staff talk to you then they'll know what i mean, but i reckon they dont workout, so ‍ and customer service and I was asked to leave because I gave that feedback.
The only rack is a lonely smith machine. Useless location. And to the gyms response below: thanks. That would have been incredibly helpful for the woman at the front desk to tell me when I asked if there were any racks aside from the one smith machine. Review upgraded to 2
Very friendly staff and knowledgeable trainers. Three floors of stacked workout equipment including HITT. Plenty of space to move around and a good amount of weights. All the staff and SO nice and helpful.
I've been a Crunch member for 20 years, and go to various locations around the city. 19th street is clean, with friendly front desk staff. Stairmasters and elliptical machines share the first floor with a spacious group fitness studio. The women's locker room is in the basement next to the spin studio. You have an abundance of clean towels, soap and mouth wash, shower gel and lotion available. There are several shower stalls. There are blow-dryers and a magnifying mirror available as well. The reason for one less star is that there have been several instances where air conditioning broke down in the spin studio, which is a small and airless room, making it very challenging to have a good workout, and wasn't fixed for some time. That's the only real issue I have with my gym overall. When air conditioning breaks, especially in summer, in group fitness studios, and takes several weeks to fix. Otherwise, Crunch 19th street is a very good place to work out.
I have been going to this gym since their grand opening. It used to be a really nice gym with friendly staffs and enough space for everybody to work out and breathe. However, ever since covid, they have closed down the adjacent location on 23rd st., shorten the operating hours and raised the membership fee. Now the gym is overcrowded anytime after 3pm till close during the weekdays since everybody who used to go to the 23rd st location have no other choice but to come here. I already had several occasions going to the gym and just leaving without working out because there were too many people and I was not able to use any equipment that I needed. They need to resolve this overcrowding issue, as I have also been seeing more members getting into small arguments because the whole experience is getting too stressful for everyone.
Gets extremely crowded in this small location especially after they closed down the other gym in the neighborhood with almost no notice and no change to the rate. Even during dead times I find myself routinely waiting for equipment. It’s paradoxical: machinery is so close together it make it impassable but also not enough for the demand. On top of that the clientele here are much ruder then many other locations in the city. Any gym that makes you feel I should work out with my home setup instead is a poor match. Today within under 15 minutes I found myself asking “Why am I here? Can’t I do more, wait less, go harder at home without rude people and creepy ‘cursing’?” This was the case today which cause me to arrived and leave in under 15 minutes. In fewer words I don’t think I will be renewing my membership with crunch again if something doesn’t change and especially so if the price stays the same for what I’m getting.
Friendly staff, clean gym, good COVID prevention protocol and enforcement that's not necessary, since the patrons have always complied - I visit three to four times per week at varying times. Unfortunately management has decided that spinning bikes for classes are less important than expanding yet more free weights space even though the entire third level was already set up for it - they eliminated the entire studio, and also replaced cardio/ellipticals/etc from the first level for even MORE of that. They somehow expect to keep their clientele by catering to one type of workouts. This is truly disappointing. Status quo, 3mo later - the clientele being catered to is not everyone, but for body building, overall fitness is an afterthought now.
