Was visiting Portland for a long weekend, and my wife the Iowa alum wanted to check out this bar for the Sat game. This is truly a neighborhood bar and a lot of friendly people here. As long as you can deal with the tiny gnats buzzing g around the bar, everything is cool. On Saturdays the owner makes a special, every body gets the special. I mean everyone. Chicken fried steak, potatoes and eggs. I am still dreaming about that meal. If you are look for no frills, neighborhood place with friendly laid back people to watch a game the definitely go here.
Very welcoming atmosphere. Great owner and the staff is friendly and attentive. A fantastic neighborhood watering hole. Catch the Hawkeyes here every weekend!
Yup, it's a no frills neighborhood bar and perhaps the company I was in shed a positive light on my visit, but I sure had a nice evening at D's bar. The cook delivered huge portions of comfort food to our table with the gracious attitude you'd expect from a fine restaurant and everyone was super friendly. I'll be back for more of that at D's Bar.
Looks like they are going through changes, expanding to the pizza place, but the staff was very friendly and attentive. Loved the beer selection and the food. Tried the onion rings, cheese bread, ribs, and veggie pizza add pepperoni. Everything was most excellent! Go Chiefs!
We went here for the first time tonight after our softball games and we were pleasantly surprised at how great the food was and how nice the atmosphere was as well. There were plenty of bartenders and servers so we didn't have to wait. I think we will start to make this our regular after game spot!
Best Iowa bar outside of the midwest!! So great to be surrounded by hometown folks so far from home. The service can be a little slow during game times, but the environment is worth it. The owner is behind the bar, slinging drinks and wisecracks. They have a different food special each Saturday during the game- last week was a morning game, so the breakfast burritos really hit the spot! Delicious, consistent bloody Mary's! Living in the West suburbs makes it quite the trek, but there's nowhere else I'd rather be on gameday!
Great place to watch a game, enjoy pizza or BBQ. Has a family feel too.
Simply some of the best food around. Including the BEST brick oven ny style pizza ever! There every weekend for football. Owner & bartenders are awesome and the football fans feel like family!
Was there for the Iowa / Ohio State game. Great fun with very nice people. Iowa pulled a huge upset. Frozen mugs are a great touch. They call it a "dive" bar but it is much more than that. Great family run establishment. Out of towners who instantly felt welcome. Sloppy Joes and Tots for lunch were good and plentiful. Foodies should probably look elsewhere. Basic bar food, which for us was perfect!
Went in and tried to order drinks. Before I could order, the bartender said "someone is sitting here and here." I replied with yeah I'm not trying to sit here I just want to order a drink. Then she was looking at her smart watch, I asked "are you closing soon?" She said that they werent closing until 2:30 but clearly the interaction on her smart watch was more important than the humans standing in front of her. I have never felt more unwelcome anywhere.
