I hate giving a bad review but, Yuck! Everything is too greasy. Muffins had a tough texture and yet were sticky. I threw away a brownie after 1 bite. The brownie had too much salt and texture was similar to the muffin. I didn't buy rugelach because they looked like candy instead of pastry. I gave one extra star for a very decent quiche crust. What happened to this place - did ownership change?
The pastries are huge and super cute looking but everything was so dry and greasy! Honestly a let down. We got brownies and chocolate croissants.
Smoothies were really not worth it, but they're one of very few options in the area. Pastries were also not very impressive, though they were quite large.
Ordered a couple smoothies from here. Tasted like canned syrup fruit. Couldn’t get passed a few sips before throwing it away. Shocked they were serving that.
I got some cupcakes for my wife’s birthday here. They looked good, but we’re SO dry. Will not be back.
I've bought many things from this bakery over the past year-- cupcakes, cookies, cake, bread, iced tea, etc. The only thing that was worth finishing was the iced tea.
Fine Sweet Shoppe is the bakery inside historic Eastern Market on Capitol Hill. They sell cakes, cookies, ice cream, coffee, sandwiches and so many other items. It's easy to get overwhelmed, but here's what I recommend: 1 Ice cream- it doesn't compare to nearby Jeni's, Captain Cookie or Moorenko's, but for the price and portion, it's perfect for kids. My toddler loves their strawberry ice cream. 2 Cakes- their chocolate cake is pretty good! 3 Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies- they are small, but a good snack. If you can avoid it, don't order their chocolate croissant. Truly, it's the worst I've had in the city.
With so many decadent pastries and pies to choose from, I'm glad I bought the Caramel Apple Pie. It was fresh and baked that morning! Although it was a bit crumbly and loaded with crunchy walnuts, I enjoyed the apple filling. I wasn't a big fan of the Toll House Chocolate Chip cookie. I would skip it and save room for the pie! There are also a lot of great bakeries and cafes down the block and near Barrack's Row like Spring Mills Breads and Shouk. So if you're looking for a gourmet pastry, it's worth venturing out. Fine Sweets offers a larger variety and bulk quantity. It's great for grabbing a box of goodies to share and take home!
Possibly the worst bakery I ever been. I honestly don't know what people see in this place, and how it has survived for so long. I went there yesterday at lunch time and ordered 3 quintessential baked goods: The walnut brownies, the banana bread and red velvet cupcakes. All of which were basically not edible and definitely not worth your calories. They were incredibly dry, the frosting on the cupcake was super stiff.
Hit or miss goods. I bought an oatmeal cookie and a rugelach. Oatmeal cookie was tasty but that was the absolutely worst rugelach I've ever eaten. They used the wrong type of pastry dough to make it. Ugh!
