THE DEPARTMENT OF BEER AND WINE IS A MUST VISIT SHOP IF YOU ARE IN ALEXANDRIA. We love visiting on a Saturday and tasting the newest selections of beers. When we find one we like, its placed in a Crowler 32 ounce can / growler for the trip home. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Stop in this wonderful LOCAL store when you are in need of a new beer or wine. SO GLAD THEY ARE IN THE POTOMAC YARD NEIGHBORHOOD.
Great local store that puts on wonderful community events. Even though this is a beer and wine shop, they are very family friendly. Kids events are held in the breezeway outside the shop. Also there’s more than just beer and wine- they have a great selection of local snacks and offer fresh flowers on the weekends! The owners/staff are super friendly and always willing to help you find the right selection for you!
Great selection of craft beer and wine, and nice clean aesthetics. Top service too.
I can only review their beer as it is what I buy from here. The beer here has a great selection of local and national craft along with some imports. All top notch and all very fresh..I don’t have to check the dates! I always get the mystery bags as they allow me to try new beer I might not pick for myself. Great local store!
What a lovely store, well stocked with interesting wines, quite a few of which are pretty fair bargains...but don't sleep on the selection of beers on tap -- wow that chalkboard is chock full of great finds. Bring a growler or two ;and start your personal tour of the great breweries from across the country.
An awesome store with an excellent selection of craft beers and wonder wines. Staff is always helpful and ready to offer samples of draft items. Regular wine and beer tastings occur and they do a great job adding new selections to the lineup! The store has been a great addition to the neighborhood!
I really like the store. It's a great addition to the neighborhood. Many beers on tap for crowler and Growler Fills. They also normally have two wines on tap as well as a root beer or similar. The canned and bottled wine and beer selection are pretty good. They get a lot of the hard-to-find beers. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is my new frequent shop for wine and beer since they opened!
The Department is amazing, it’s my go to Crowler fill up spot! I am a Crowler Club member and love the ability to fill up with so many carefully selected brews on tap. Great representation of local craft brew as well as from across the US and even international. Great wine selection and lots of helpful staff picks in various styles and price points. Yummy goodies in the freezer too like delicious frozen pizzas from local outlets and nightingale ice cream sandwiches from Richmond.
DBW, as it is affectionately known, is a neighborhood gem. We have loved it since we moved a few blocks away at about the time they opened their doors. They have a ton of good choices in both beer and wine, and they have rotating taps-- you can fill a crowler, bring or buy a growler, and even do some cider! They put a lot of effort into their monthly subscriptions, and we've loved trying new wines and new regions. The snacks section has some fun gourmet options Rx chicken soup, Jeni's ice cream. On holidays, you can find floral bouquets order them in advance if you can, they go fast!. Pre-pandemic, they also hosted music classes for kids, a periodic fun weekend morning feature that our daughter loved.
An absolute gem - hands down the best in the DC-metro area. First and foremost, DBW has THE coolest, most interesting selection of local beer and wine and specialty stuff from around the world, but there are lots of other reasons to shop there, too. They're my go-to spot for things like cards, chocolate, special food items, gifts, and flowers - arrangements as gorgeous as boutique flower shops but actually affordable. They also collaborate with other local businesses on things like dinner drops, special ice cream flavors, programs for kids, and they do a community clean up program. They genuinely care about their community and the arts, too. DBW is the definition of why shopping small is more rewarding, more fun, and actually matters.
