A Jackson Favorite Gets a New Look
One of downtown Jackson’s favorite eateries moves to a new location on East Capitol

Culinary creativity is becoming the essence of the Jackson downtown dining in the capitol city and award-winning chef Aubrey Norman, Jr. is creating masterpieces at the new Downtown Café location. His unsuspecting take on feel-good southern cuisine is not only satisfying and affordable.

Norman’s new location, the old Miller’s Grill, is a stone throw away from its former home on the opposite end of East Capitol. Those who have been fortunate enough to taste the signature dish, Chicken and Waffles at Downtown Café, will be quite delighted to experience its delectable successor and all the new additions to the menu. Chef Norman’s vision for the new Downtown Café includes fresh seafood and a uniquely Norman take on a fine dining experience.

Aubrey Norman, affectionately known as ‘BJ’ to his friends and family, grew up in the river town of Natchez. He discovered his passion for food and service while cooking for his friends in the neighborhood at the age of 12, “We would play all day and I remember coming in the kitchen and making lunch for everyone.”

Norman began his culinary career working in hotels and discovering his niche for creating a true dining experience through his signature ‘Wednesday Night Social’, where guests would mingle and ate for free. Motivated by his passion, Norman learned every facet of the restaurant business and is excited about his latest venture. Knowing Chef Norman, you can count on a great culinary experience in the downtown area.

Chef Norman has been recognized by the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau with a Hometown Hero Award for his impact on furthering tourism and inspiring entrepreneurship in the city of Jackson. Local young professional Ashley Logan says “Jackson is the quickly becoming the Mecca in Mississippi where driven young visionaries create new urban dreams...he [Norman] is an inspiration for young entrepreneurs.” Ashley along with other regulars is excited about the new Downtown Café. The grand opening will be coming VERY soon.
