E.A.K. RAMEN - NY Hell's Kitchen
"Authentic Japanese ramen izakaya from Yokohama, Japan. This is the second restaurant in NYC opened in 2019. East meets West in the style of the ramen prepared. Tonkotsu of the West and Shoyu Chicken of the East. Our signature IEKEI style ramen is served with thick straight noodles that are specially created for us. No one has our formula and it is served with our broth that is created only after 17 hours of tender loving care. Topped off with juicy chashu, aji-tama, and spinach. Yes, spinach. Usually it is green onions, but we use spinach to enhance the strength of our soup. We hope you enjoy our ramen! Also, our second restaurant in New York City has very unique interiors! Great foods, services, and astonishing space at Hell's Kitchen!"

I first stumbled upon this hole in the wall while browsing for restaurants to eat around Times Square. When I got into the restaurant I was warmly greeted by my server May. She was extremely helpful in helping me decide what to get and I ended up choosing the tofu with vegetable dish. I was afraid it wouldn’t be filling since it was an appetizer dish but May was kind enough to give me a heaping bowl of rice with it to help me feel more full. The tofu dish was so good and paired extremely well with the wood ear mushrooms, bean sprouts, and sauce that I just had to order another tofu dish. The fried tofu with eggplant which had its own unique flavors and texture. The tofu was soft and crispy on the outside surrounded by a hot pool of soup and topped with finely chopped chives and dried seaweed. Overall I was extremely satisfied with the entire experience. If you end up choosing this place as for your lunch/dinner plans I don’t doubt that you will have a similar experience with great service and food.
Overall food tasted amazing. Enjoyed the thicker ramen noodles and fried chicken. Excellent ambience for eating in a modern, relatively minimalist setting. Only things to point out was the Hot' ramen was a little too heavy and a Zebra ramen we ordered a bit salty.
IMO the best ramen and karaage in NYC. What isn’t pictured is the nori fries that is served with kewpie mayonnaise and cod roe. Price, quality and service was excellent. Highly recommended if you are anywhere near Hell’s Kitchen. Keep in mind that it’s a relatively small space. While we were around 9, we were seated without wait or reservation. 10 minutes later there was a rush of 20 or so and noticed there was a line outside when we left a little after 10.
Decent Japanese. Gyoza is really good. Can't go wrong with the fried chicken. However, they don't allow take out of Raw fish. Really???
Definitely solid 4.5 stars, a few small things to work on but so good! The chicken karage is one of the best I’ve ever had. It is moist, lightly battered and seasoned beautifully! As for the ramen, the broth is strongly flavored without being too oily but personally the noodles are a bit “Al dente” for me… I’d like them a little softer. Also the pork belly is more like a stewed pork, though it has great flavor, I’d rather have a seared pork belly to give that contrast… but still amazing food, come check it out!
I visited E.A.K Izakaya right as they opened for dinner. The atmosphere inside was very relaxed and cozy. The design reminded me of Japan. We ordered the agedashi tofu, shoyu ramen, mushroom vegan ramen, and the Strawberry Sakerita and the Mint To Be Peachy. The drinks were both good and very large which I enjoyed. The agedashi tofu was tasty but came out drowned in a pool of very viscous almost gelatinous sauce. The fried coating of the tofu was almost sticky and soaked in the sauce. The shoyu ramen broth was really good. It had a hint of ginger/green onion that cut through the rich creamy broth. The noodles were a great consistency and were chewy and picked up the broth well. The mushroom vegan ramen was not bad but tasted overly of mushroom for my taste personally, but that’s to be expected from a mushroom broth. We also ordered a side of chicken breast which was slightly dry and menma bamboo shoots that still had a little too much of the fermenting liquid taste still lingering. Overall E.A.K. Izakaya’s shoyu ramen alone was extremely satisfying and worth coming back for alone, while there other dishes left something to be desired.
Hitting up a good ramen spot in NY is a must and I don't think you can go wrong with E.A.K. It was my first time visiting and it definitely did not disappoint. If you like spicy, don't be shy about turning up the spice level. It had a good kick without being salty or taking anything away from me the flavor of the broth. I would recommend adding karaage fried dark chicken meat, best I had in a while but stay away from the BAOs.
Delicious food, the ramen is really good. Bao buns are also delicious but small. I would definitely suggest it. Keep in mind we will waited about 10 mins to be seatted!
OMG! The best ramen soup I’ve ever tasted till now. It was superb!!! The boneless chicken were nice too. Service really good
Best ramen of my life. GO HERE! They offer Vegan ramen too- a rare find for a ramen place. The noodles and broth have perfect texture and each ingredient adds a critical dimension to this impeccable meal teeming with flavor! The poke bowls have top quality fish and the rice is prepared to perfectly compliment the other ingredients. The only criticism I can make is the bowls could use a little more veggies and/or fish, but we're really stretching at this point.
