Sellwood Senior Living is a great community for your loved ones! They have all have been so accommodating and sincerely generous with their time and concern for the residents in this community. The facility is brand new, well maintained, and staffed with friendly people who go out of their way to meet all the needs of their residents. There are game rooms, a theater, a hobby room and flexible dining options with a great food variety! But by far, what makes this place special is the group of people who manage the facility and the many employees from the dining room wait staff to the front desk receptionists, from the housekeeping staff to the executive offices, who really seem committed to making life enjoyable for the residents who call Sellwood Senior Living home!
My mom lives here. It's very cozy. My mom's apartment is modern with high ceilings. She stays busy doing activities. She goes to bingo, garden club, rides to various places. The thing I like is the residents seem comfortable and no one looks sad. I notice that it does need remodeling in the main hall but it's vacuumed and doesn't smell. It's more like home and not sterile. It's why I like it. My mom was in foster care but hated it. Her health has been better since she lived there.
My mother lived here for a little over a year. They recruited her, but this was when it was Brookdale. As soon as Elmcroft purchased and took over the facility last spring to summer, things took a really bad turn. Mom no longer got the care she needed. She has dementia, but so do a third of the people living there and much worse than my mother. It was more important for Elmcroft to purchase high end looking menus for the dining room than to hire enough people to care for the people living in this facility. I changed moms bed, washed her clothes and cleaned the apartment many times over the last six months she was there. I would press the button to get help when I needed to shower her or help changing the bed and no one would show up for 30-40 minutes. Thank God my mother wasn't on the floor. This happened several times over the last six months she was there. I was also harassed by the manager and one of the nurses by phone about my mother. It was very stressful. Mom even knew they were not taking care of her and expressed this to me many times. She would sleep in her clothes and they would come get her for breakfast and not help her change many times, she stayed in same clothes and a dirty bed many times. I contacted the CEO and he referred me to one of his underlings in another state to take care of any complaints. She was nice and asked for a list by email of our concerns. We did just what she asked and received no reply. I know she opened and read it since I got a read receipt. Her concern or lack of it was not encouraging. I would not recommend Elmcroft to anyone who has a loved one that needs care. Don't get me wrong, there were some people that actually cared about my mom there, but they had no control over how things where run. I am grateful to those staff who tried and really cared, but without proper leadership, it is hard to do the best job.
These people accepted my mother for placement at their facility in late August 2018 after two of their nurses evaluated her, but one and a half hours before the move, they said they would not admit her because of recent medical documents they had read. They NEVER said anything about the possibility of her not being accepted. To accept a person and then withdraw the acceptance one and a half hours before she was due to move in is a HORRIBLE thing to do. My mother lived close to this place, and she was mailed a promotional flier from Elmcroft after this rejection. Even worse, I was sent an email on November 28, 2018 asking if I was still looking for a place for my mother. Well, gee, thanks so much for inquiring, but my mother died on October 30. They will blather on and on about how much they care about their residents, but those words ring hollow. These folks seem mainly interested in money.
Nice big 1 bedroom apartments. but short on skilled employees. This is not the employees fault, but the large corporate owner, who refuses to put out the money. It's a nice building with wonderful neighbors. The Emeritus Corporation cares more about money than the people they claim to care so much about. It,s too bad for the people that trusted their advertisements and moved in.
I have not even visited this location but called for information. It was clear up front that my family member wouldn’t be a good fit for this spot financially. But the lovely woman who answered the phone spent a good amount of time giving me information and alternatives. This was my first call and I so appreciate the kindness and knowledge that I received over the phone. Thank you!
The menu, is NOT up to Par for $5,000 A month!!!!Some of is is quite desirable, fresh fruit, juices & some Entrees! Needs some work though!
You need to get a handle on the senior lady driving tour company vehicle, she was just driving in a 25 mph zone at probably 50mph.
Nice place to be
