We’re very fond of Szechuan cuisine and make sure to try it wherever we go. Being in NYC’s Chinatown, we visited this place considering its name and location. When we went inside, the restaurant was completely empty, and we were the only ones there. We ordered Steamed Dumplings, which were cold and tasted like they were made a day ago, and Spicy pork dumplings which were a little warm but not hot. Moreover, the chili oil had no chilies and was just oil. Next, we ordered, Bokchoy, which wasn’t served fresh either and was instead microwaved because some of it was hot while other pieces were cold. We also ordered chopper pepper fish which wasn’t on the menu, but we were told they could make it. It turned out to be a fried fish with salt, and it was served over lettuce which is not the right way to serve it. Finally, we ordered our signature dish, which we love, the fish fillet in Szechuan sauce. The quantity was 1/4th of what we have always gotten, and so many Szechuan restaurants across the US. The fish had no salt, chili, or numbing taste and was rather bland. We had also ordered the Hot n Sour soup but never got it, and it was also included in the bill, which we had to ask to be removed. The restaurant is super expensive and is not worth the money we spent there.
Dry pot was delicious! Total with rice and tax came out to $45 we didn’t get any of the additional extra price ingredients for two people. We walked in on a Tuesday night and there was plenty of seating.
Super friendly staff. Nice Atmosphere. We found this restaurant by chance after refusing to wait 30+ min for others to free up and it was the best accident ever. The food was very good and the price was fair. Will definitely be our go to for lunch when we go to New York!
The food was absolutely amazing!! The broiled whole fish in chili sauce was delicious. The spicy stir fry in the hot pot was also very good. And the service was great the people working there were very kind. I would recommend everyone come to this restaurant soon! Very good Szechuan food.
Owner tried to charge me $14 for scallion pancakes. I was very confused thinking maybe there was an entre version of this very typical, standard dish. Nope. She was simply trying to take advantage of me. Adding a random photo near China town just so people know I did visit.
Really really not good Chinese food here unfortunately. Ordered the shredded beef and it came completely dry with zero taste and zero sauce. Very rushed and no touch to it
Excellent food!!! And this is coming from someone who grew up eating delicious home cooked Chinese food. The sliced beef with peppers C23 and Chinese veggies with garlic sauce were both amazing. The beef in particular had a really nice flavor where you could taste the ingredients but they didn’t overpower the natural flavor of the meat at all. And the beef was also the perfect tenderness with just a tiny bit of crispy edges here and there. Definitely recommend this spot, the vibe was also chill and it wasn’t too crowded even on a Saturday night. The only thing I’d say would have improved the meal is if they had some music playing!
Imma be Honest this place is a bit over Priced 4 what u get but at 2am u cant really Complain also they actually had DanDan Noodles which are kinna hard 2 Find but as Far as Portions to price ratio it's a bit off
The food was beyond expectations. I will definitely come back for the sichuan noodle
8/5/22 update: I came again to try to the Braised beef fillet with Sichuan sauce. I placed my order and went to the bathroom to wash my hands. There was no soap so I told the front desk lady. While I was waiting outside the bathroom for her to refill it, I see one of the workers go into the bathroom, spend a couple minutes in there and then leave to go back to a table in the restaurant he was working at, where he continues to fill dumplings with meat with his bare hands. Knowing that he just used the bathroom and at best washed his hands with water but without soap, needless to say, I will never return to this disgusting place. 3/1/22 visit: Had the "Chong qing spicy dry chicken" and the "Cumin lamb." Both were excellent. The chicken was a $12.95 lunch special available 11am to 5pm M-F. The cumin lamb wasn't on the lunch special list but the lady was nice enough to give it to me as I had to wait a bit to order. The interior is a bit dark and dingy; the place could use a renovation or at least some more lighting, but the food made up for it. Next time I want to try the "Braised beef with Sichuan chili sauce."
