Florida House on Capitol Hill is the only state embassy in Washington, D.C.
Florida is proud to be the only state with an embassy in Washington, D.C. Founded by First Lady Rhea Chiles in 1973, thousands of visiting dignitaries, families, students and those having business in Washington have been welcomed to the nation’s capital with a glass of Florida orange juice.
Just one block from the U.S. Capitol, we share the corner of East Capitol and Second Street with the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress and the Folger Shakespeare Library. We are between the Capital South and Union Station metro stops and one block from the Circulator.
Visitors to the House love to have their photo taken from our upstairs window with its iconic view of the Capitol Dome. You can also tour the House, hearing the stories behind the antiques and artwork , many of which were donated by Floridians. Pick up information about attractions in the nation’s capital or relax in our beautiful, shaded garden.
Florida House is the perfect place to host meetings, seminars, retreats or receptions. Your guests will feel like they are in their own private club. Guests can view some pretty spectacular sunsets over the Capitol Dome from our garden or the House.
The beautiful three-story Victorian home, built in 1891, was purchased and is maintained solely by individual and corporate contributions. No state or federal tax dollars are used to support Florida House.
We love to share the home, hospitality and a little bit of Florida with our visitors.
A non-profit, non-partisan organization that promotes all things Florida. Florida House is our State Embassy on Capitol Hill that connects, celebrates and champions Florida to the world.
