Site of the "Old Arsenal Penitentiary" where the conspirators of the Lincoln Assassination were hanged in the penitentiary yard. The Building now labeled "Africa Center for Strategic Studies" on Google maps is actually "Grant Hall" and is the last remaining vestige of the penitentiary site. The third floor of Grant Hall and was the courtroom site for the conspiracy trial from May 12 to June 30, 1865. The courtroom has been restored to its 1865 condition. A tennis court has been built on the site of the old penitentiary yard. Public Access to the Grant Hall courtroom is limited to dates established by the Fort. The Fort is accessible to the public only on a limited number of occasions annually. You will have to contact the Fort to determine these dates.

Pretty historical Fort in DC. Home of the National Defense University. Controlled access at the gates - must have a military or DoD Id.
