In 1929 David Fortner Sr. began reupholstering furniture in a small south side shop. His son David Jr., joined as a very young man. Through their hard work and David Jr’s entrepreneurial spirit the business grew steadily. Two generations later, we have stayed true to David Jr’s family business values and principles as we have grown to be Ohio’s largest reupholstering business. Through all four generations, our motto has remained the same as it has been since David and his dad started, “quality in every piece”.

My friend had good results from Fortner, but my results were so horrible it was hard to believe. I spent THOUSANDS on upholstery for four pieces: sleek mid-century sofa, two club chairs, and one antique side chair. And the results were ridiculously shoddy: puckered seams, wiggly piping, uneven stretching of fabric on the frame, cushions that didn’t REMOTELY fit, nails sticking out — and, worst of all, they overstuffed the sleek sofa until it was an ugly bloated thing that looked like a cheap purchase from a low-quality discount store. Fortner agreed to fix three of the pieces, but we had to get more fabric due to poor cutting initially. Delay of several weeks. And Fortner’s was not friendly about it but grudging — failed to return phone calls, etc! Incredible hassle. I made call after call for a year, trying to get the job finished. When I talked to a top executive, he professed to have no knowledge of of the many calls I had made. The final result was okay but not great. NOT worth the top-of-the-line prices I paid. Apparently they were expanding their business and hired a lot of new staff. My decorator was appalled and apologized profusely for recommending them, but it wasn’t her fault that a previously excellent business had new management and was going downhill. It seems some of the upholsterers are good, and some are lousy — and quality control by management was non-existent.
Excellent furniture for sale and upholstered furniture rebuilding with many years of experience. Sales staff is top notch!
