They have done an outstanding job with preserving this historical neighborhood. I took the walking tour with David and learned so much! I can now notice things that I would have normally overlooked before. An example is being able to identify original brickwork versus restorative brickwork by the direction in which the bricks were laid!
WoW great place to find out a little about the history of the German Village. The people that work there are very nice and friendly. This place also has restroom if you need it. The German Village is a must see. Beautiful place that you will fall in love with.
A group of us on the Central Community House seniors group went there to share some experiences regarding scans that are directed to seniors etc. They meeting facilities were very accommodating
Enjoyed the German Village area of Columbus! Cute homes and gardens. The Schmidt Sausage house was an excellent choice for dinner.
German Village is such a beautiful neighborhood! A trip to Columbus isn't complete without exploring this area.
The Society itself is a group of folks dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of and current culture in German Village. And they do a great job. But this building itself is a sort if community center with rooms to rent for meetings and events, and holds events of its own like art shows and Christmas celebrations. It is clean, pretty, and centrally located, and the staff is usually very helpful. Parking can be a bit tricky, but you can usually finds somewhere within a few blocks.
We hosted a birthday party at the German Village Meeting House Oct 2017. The coordinator was very helpful in every way! He also provided a list of local areas to assist with parking, as parking is limited in the area. The Meeting Haus provided chairs and tables that we set up. There's a refrigerator and counters for prep, but no oven or way to heat or cook things. Which is fine. It was a really great space. We received many compliments on finding a great location. I would highly recommend using this space. I believe this is a non-profit and all proceeds go to helping with the German Village Society.
I came her for a Game of Thrones Season premier, and this is a nice place to have an event. The hall has two stories, and they have everything you need to host a good sized gathering.
This is a great organization and an an backing facility that they really make available for use by local businesses and individuals. Their continued efforts keep German Village as one of the top neighborhoods in the country.
Three things I miss most about mid-west living, Fall color, playing football in the snow and brick house with basement, two of those three can be found here. Really lovely walk IMO. The only thing you have to watch out is the uneven pavement, if you have a weak ankle like me, watch your steps.
