Grass Island Houghton Lake Michigan

Anyone ever asked " Who exactly owns Grass Island" ? Whoever it is, do they really want to be responsible for thousands of people who access this property over a summer. If I owned it I would want to be sure I was heavily insured. If the lakefront owner to the south owns it, with riparian rights, then whoever that is should be the owner. A riparian rights owner owns the bottom of the lake to the imaginary center of the lake. So, who do you think owns it? Someone owns Mackinac Island, correct? or Treasure Island on Higgins Lake. So who owns Grass Island. Comments anyone? RJB

I was there on a July weekend afternoon. I stood in waist deep water with several hundred other people drinking beer watching all the Co-ed's tossing each other off of boats and swimming around. Note there are no bathroom facilities anywhere in sight. After we left and my shorts dried, I noticed a large ring of salt stains on my shorts where I was wading. I thought Houghton Lake was a FRESH water lake......

Island is gone. It had mostly eroded last year and now it's totally gone. RIP grass island.
