I love having a Y membership. Having access to a pool, workout room, classes, and sauna at some locations for the current adult membership fee is worth it to me. I appreciate having options. However, it is very frustrating to not be able to use any of the YMCA of Southern Maine locations as they are not offering reciprocity. I don’t even live out of state — just have a Y membership at a different branch. The YMCA is meant to be a welcoming place for all. Those of us without YMCA of Southern Maine branch memberships should absolutely be able to use these facilities also, especially if we are also Maine residents.
Love going to the Y. Everybody is so kind and helpful.
Good old reliable YMCA!! In case you didn't know, they have scholarships/ financial assistance if you can't pay the full membership fees. The staff are nice and helpful and always friendly!!! They even have remote Zoom yoga classes as well as prerecorded ones you can't watch on YouTube.
I lived there for awhile it's OK but the building is full of Cockaroch. The pool is awesome. It's now 5/16/2022. I moved out 8and a half years now, I've walked by a lot and people that live there, wow.
Grubby little place. Like the older days. Nothing special to look at but the staff are exceptionally nice. Exemplar, lovely young people mostly.....They make me smile. Machines are fine, swimming pool, sauna and steam room. That's nice to have available. Water pressure in showers could be better. C'est La Vie.
This is a great place to excercise. There are machines, swimming pools, squash courts and places to stretch. There is a great sense of history here as well. The staff is helpful and attentive. There are plenty activities to participate in and they have a ton of excercise classes you can join. There is also a sense that your gym membership is being invested in the community, especially to families who need support. They welcome everyone and work hard to insure that everyone has access to vital resources. Parking can be tricky. The city does tow regurlarly from the no parking zones on high street so park legallyl
The "Y" is amazing, from gym facilities, to basketball courts, to swimming pools - and all in between - plus special programs for kids.. And also providing housing - it is truly a blessing to have such a well-rounded community in my back yard. The staff is right on point - they do a fantastic job making all the moving pieces work. Keep up the great work!
Wellness room equipment really needs to cleaned. The treadmill I was on was covered in dust. Also saw someone use the reusable towel for cleaning the equipment on their face to wipe off sweat. Was considering getting a membership here but after using my guest pass & seeing the conditions of some of the equipment I’m very weary about coming regularly.
I support the YMCA. I feel comfortable there. The cons being it often smells terrible and it is often overbearingly hot. Machines/building a bit outdated. Worry about the amount of bacteria on everything. Great there are two pools there- one is heated. Sauna, pools, and group fitness classes included in membership.
Love this place as much for its social mission as for its being a gym. There are certainly fancier places to work out, play squash and basketball and swim, but none with the range of constituents and cool old building. It's a real place.
