On a recent, one day round trip, excursion from Raleigh to D.C. we boarded bus #540 (# is inside the bus, located above the driver). The bus was scheduled to arrive 15 minutes prior to our departure time of 4:00 a.m. but instead arrived a little after 4:00 a.m. forcing us to depart at 4:30 a.m. a half hour later than scheduled. While the bus itself and bathroom were clean there were far greater safety issues. Once the bus was on the road we began to feel this constant jerking/hesitation motion, which we could only assume was the transmission slipping, this motion persisted throughout the entire trip. We were fearful the bus could breakdown. However, it was the ride back to Raleigh that was horrific. On the return trip our driver appeared confused, he did not remember where he was to drop us off, we found this alarming. While driving on the major interstates our driver would slow down, then speed up and repeated this pattern, coupled with the constant jerking/hesitation motion of the transmission, made for a nauseating trip. With a full bus, he turned off the A/C because he was cold and turned on the heat, mind you the outside temp was in the 80's. Several passengers requested that he please turn the A/C back on because they felt like they were suffocating. Our driver appearing disoriented had to pull over on I-64 to find the controls to turn the A/C back and requested the help of passengers to use their cell phones to illuminate his area so that he could see. He informed us that he is 70 years old, which only added to our concern. Where was the GPS for the driver? People on our bus had to use their cell phones and give him verbal driving directions. He barely made the exit off I-95 to enter I-64 for Raleigh because he was unable to follow their verbal directions. This trip was traumatic for many of us who could see and hear what was going on. While relieved to make it home without physical injury, the anxiety during the trip was terrible. Therefore, we do not recommend Greenway Transit for your long distance trips.

Great company to work with. They are environment-conscious and are willing to negotiate to make sure everyone is happy. We felt safe and secure throughout our trip and they accommodated us as much as possible.
