We loved our weekend at this hotel. We had a wonderful experience. The office manager, Victor, was extremely pleasant and helpful. The views were spectacular, even on a brisk fall day. The food and drinks were delicious. All of the staff was willing to help, with a smile on their faces. My kids loved the indoor pool and my husband enjoyed his massage at the spa. Our post Thanksgiving trip was perfect thanks to this property and its staff!
Wish I could rate it higher but it is what it is. Super pricey spot that is just kind of old. Dated, cramped rooms that are in need of a much needed makeover. My room was super dark, even with the shades drawn wide open. My TV was broken along with the phone. A/C was ice cold which was nice. The outdoor pool was spectacular and obviously the main draw to staying here. There are plenty of nicer places but what's the point if you're there in summer and not getting some rays and pooling. Indoor pool was hot and muggy, a little ventilation would go a long way. The staff was amazing and the food was fantastic. I brought our dog and it was totally pet friendly and super convenient. Plenty of nice grassy spots. I'd stay there again but was just expecting more for an establishment with this price. Needless to say, the views and location make it.
They were able to check me in just before 1p despite check in beginning at 4p, which was spectacular. It took me a while to find my room; I had to make my way behind the restaurant, down a flight of steps, outside, past a few rooms, inside, and around the corner. The location was perfectly between the two restaurants so that worked well, but if we wanted to leave, it took some time to make it out and to the car. When I did arrive, I dropped off my stuff, and popped back outside for a quick call. I came back and the door would not open. I made my way back to the front desk, they called a service person, I went back to the room and waited 15 minutes. No show. So I sat by the water with just my phone and key, then went back an hour later and the door worked. We had lunch at the Pineapple Club. The food was delightful but it did take at least 30 minutes to get chips and salad. We weren’t in a rush anyway. We went to dinner there, too, and it was the same menu. We asked for the chips as an app but they came with our meal and a million fries and so we didn’t get a chance to eat them. Lovely time at the fire pits then we went back to our room. One used the toilet and it clogged. Called the front desk. They said they’d send someone. 22 minutes passed, we called again and someone came immediately. Once we all finished cleaning up for the night, one of the light switches was broken and we needed pliers to turn it off. For the price we paid, I was shocked at the state of our room photo of bathroom vanity. The next day, they were able to serve avocado toast on gluten free bread and find me a side of berries at lunch. Plus they were great asking about allergies. Location was perfect and views were Devine. However, I would not go back.
My friends and I stayed at your hotel this past weekend to celebrate my friend’s birthday. We had a wonderful stay but wanted to particularly point out the excellent customer service provided by the manager of the pineapple club, Marielle. She was funny, friendly and went above and beyond. One day it started raining while sitting poolside and we just ordered food right before the storm came. Even though it was a little hectic with all the guests running inside before the storm hit, She personally made sure that our order came to us. She is absolutely wonderful and we want to give her a million stars if we could.
We came in really excited as our last vacation before our baby is born. Right from the start there were issues with the computers which is understandable. However the staffs answer was to push us to the side and help other guests first to “keep the line moving”. After that upon arriving in our room there was no toilet paper in our bathroom. The one nice thing we can say is the view of the bay was beautiful. We attempted to call to get the toilet paper and extra pillows and our phone wouldn’t work. Go to take a shower and the bathtub drains so slow you end up with water pooling over your feet. Next day looking for food ask if the pineapple club is open and serving food, told yes only to walk out and find the place boarded up. Go back to the room figuring just to order room service, phone still not working. Call via cell phone, they try to transfer me and get disconnected multiple times. Call back and they tell me “he may be out on a delivery he’ll call you back when he sees there’s a missed call”. I’m never someone to complain however for what we were charged to stay at this place I was expecting something special. It has been anything but that, and we still have a day to go.
Just returned from a weekend honeymoon at Gurneys on Goat Island and we sadly couldn’t wait to get home. Extremely negative experience. Gurneys has run this property into the ground and are no longer owner of the property/hotel in 2 weeks. Wish we knew this before booking. Beautiful location tarnished by extremely poor accommodations and state of hotel is in obvious disrepair in most areas. The rate we paid per night was outrageous and borders robbery. All the staff was basically kind, helpful and sorry for the poor conditions. They get complaints daily and morale is poor under constant, negative feedback We were told the property will undergo 40 million in renovations The caliber is currently of a Motel 6. The only saving grace is the pool area and positive dining experience. Skip the Gurney hype and hold off until massive improvements bring the property back to life ! So much potential !
We came in the off season, I think it might be nicer during the summer. But we were a little disappointed because we went here on a babymoon and I splurged on this hotel thinking I was getting us some kind of luxury experience. But it wasn't and I was kind of embarrassed to answer to my husband about how we got into this situation. The hotel was actually dated and our room wasn't as nice as it looked in the photos. It was quiet and had a good view of the water but otherwise nothing special. There was no overhead lighting so the room was pretty dark, and it was freezing when we arrived. We had to call maintenance up to our room twice in the first night and we also had to go buy a blanket for our room. The couch was uncomfortable and there wasn't a coffee table. There was a coffee machine in the room but the coffee pods weren't labeled so we didn't know what was what. It's also not walkable to town in the cold so I would suggest staying somewhere in town across the bridge and it would perhaps also be nicer. We thought about leaving and going somewhere else but the idea of doing all of that and figuring out how that would break down cost wise was just too overwhelming.
Upon arrival it looks like you’re absolutely getting what you pay for and that’s where the facade ends. THE ROOMS The rooms are antiquated and terribly tended to. We paid nearly 2k for the weekend and we were only left ONE towel in the bathroom. When we called down for more we ended up waiting more than 45 minutes for additional towels. The rooms aren’t thoughtfully laid out, don’t really have anything you’d want or need to get ready for an event. The “waterfront” view, while technically was a water view, was also in a gross alley that was NOT tended to at all. FOOD The food at the resort including at the wedding was mediocre at best. Nothing was seasoned and everything was over cooked. We weren’t even asked how we wanted our filet cooked at the wedding. Silverware was chipped. Food took forever. No one tried to make anything better or help in any capacity. THE POOL The pool was fine but not managed well and muddy and chairs and couches looked severely untended to. OVERALL There is ZERO attention to detail in the entire resort. The absolute definition of complacency. We went for a wedding and honestly even if only paid a quarter of the price I’d still be woefully disappointed. Things were dirty and broken all over the resort. Save your money and go elsewhere.
I’m mid-stay at this hotel, and I truly can’t believe how expensive it is for what you get. It’s dated, dingy, and feels like your old aunt’s house that you stay with at Thanksgiving that is only kind of clean but feels a bit icky. $800/night is laughable for the quality of this hotel. Do yourself a favor and choose another spot in Newport. The restaurant was the only decent part of this hotel. Also, if your room service closes at 10pm, don’t advertise that it’s open until midnight.
The location! Okay now that we've got the only positive out of the way. The property is woefully underinvested. Very tired and dated with many items in need of replacement. In general you can understand these things can happen but not for over $700/night. Our room is/was comparable to an average Embassy Suite's room, with multiple signs of disrepair. Again, not at $700/night. The lobby coffee/cafe wasn't open at 7am. I was told we couldn't take our bags to our room two overnight pieces of luggage on rollers, a backpack and a garment bag that the bell hop needed to do that. Okay but unnecessary. Worse, thirty minutes later in our room no bags! I go down and they're still sitting in bell hop area. I'm told they're short staffed..well if true let willing and able guests transport their own bags. SMH, not a good or smart look. I've heard the property was recently sold. Hopefully a new owner/operator will bring the property and services up to a level comparable with the location.
